View Full Version : Amazing dog story in our news...
Monday 2 children were playing in a field next to their rural home. Suddenly a truck driver (a road above) stopped and yelled 'BEAR...you kids get the heck out of there NOW!' The boy (13) and his sister (8) turned to see a huge black bear charging them. They froze, and said 'out of nowhere their dog, Major, appeared. He bit the bear on the nose'. Major is a boxer...a real beauty. The bear turned and started to go the other way....BUT then turned to once again charge the children. Major again dove at the bear, chasing it into the woods. The children were able to safely get to their home. The story ended with the sad news that Major had not been seen....OH, I started to tear up. Yesterday, tho, reports were made of a dog answering the description of Major which led folks to start an all out search.....I'm keeping hope (along with many, many people) that Major is found safe. The hope is that he chased the bear and just got lost. What a wonderful, loving family protector. Something strange this year has so many bear roaming out in the open. I'll let you know if Major is found. It's a big story here.

The truck driver was on the road above, Fran - the bear probably never even noticed him. Imagine what might have happened had that trucker not seen and alerted Major to the danger!

Oh I read it wrong... I figured the guy was mad at the kids for being there and called the bear on them or something. I need more caffeine.
Hope the dog is ok :(
yes..the truck driver was on a road above the field, he alerted the children and called for help..but would have never gotten to them in time, not to mention he couldn't have fought off a huge black bear. It was a blessing he called out because I do also think that is what alerted Major to the immediate danger. By the time the police responded to the trucker's call, Major had already disappeared into the woods after the bear. Someone reported pork chop bones missing from their trash...with a description of a boxer ...it is within range that it could be Major. I think I am totally in love with this dog...boy, will I be dancing if they find him!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just think how God used the truck driver and the dog to save those kids. If that truck driver wasn't there, neither would the kids. If Major hadn't been there, neither would be the kids. I hope Major shows up soon and has not been hurt or killed. But if that's what ends up, then he was sent to this earth to do a duty... which he fulfilled with a valiant heart.

Yes !!! Pleeeeeeeze !!!!
Sadly, no news. I've been watching every day, and I know they would do a follow-up because alot of people would be so happy, especially the family. I still have hope, but then again I can't believe he wouldn't show up at someone's house. He obviously is a very loving dog. Believe me, if I hear anything about him being found...I will be on here shouting!

That dog is a REAL hero, I'm not sure if a human would actually do that... That dog is a dog that comes around once in a blue moon... If he is dead, I will appreciate that boxer even more. That dog risked his OWN life for another, you only see that stuff in movies. Major, I salute to you!

Dear all,
My girlfriend told me about this amazing story a few days ago and she too was waiting for news..that never came. I don't know why they didnt follow up with this story but the good news is Major is back home and safe...and healthy. I googled this news story (after considerable effort) and came across this forum whilst I was searching, so I registered especially to let you all know the happy ending too!
God is great...all the time! :)
Ciao,

Four-Legged Hero Back Home in Ligonier (http://kdka.com/local/local_story_195115843.html)
"Major," the dog that chased a bear that got too close to his family, is back home safe and sound
Jul 14, 2005 10:56 am US/Eastern
Ligonier (KDKA) It's what a local family has been hoping for since their protective pooch disappeared after fighting off a black bear: their four-legged hero is back home safe and sound with the family.
Bill and Dawn Rusko have been hailing their boxer, "Major," a hero for potentially saving their children from bear attack outside their Ligonier home last Sunday.
The family dog went after the bear -- twice -- as it headed straight the front yard where Corey Rusko, 11, was playing with his sister and cousin.
"I owe him my life. He's a brave, strong dog -- and he really deserves to live a full, healthy life!" -- Corey Rusko
Major had been missing since he chased the bear back into the woods.
Last night, though, the family found their beloved pet in the woods about a mile from home.
Major lost a little weight and a few wounds, but is otherwise okay.
His family welcomed him home with his favorite food -- pork chops. :)

THANK YOU, Anthony! That is wonderful news!
And I hope you come back and join us. If that's your Boxer in your profile you've certainly got a happy, healthy and handsome dog.
OMG..Anthony...THANKS SO MUCH for the update! I happened to peek in the forum and this caught my eye. I confess...maybe they DID follow-up on the story, but who always watches the HOURS of news?!! I'm so happy...love the happy ending. :) My friends had a boxer named Comet. Their dog was such a wonderful, dedicated family dog that after her passing they vowed to never get another...they feel they could never replace such a beloved pet. I think I love boxers even more now.....:) Course, I think many of our pets would do the same. I really appreciate you making the effort to give us this news. :) THANKS again.
