The Labrador Retriever (http://www.basicsdogtraining.com/labradorretrievers/index.html) is one of the most wonderful and amazing breeds ever developed. A Labrador puppy is a bouncy bundle of black, yellow or chocolate fun and games. A Labrador adult is one of many things. He is an excellent guide dog for those who are sightless or visually impaired: The Labrador Retriever is the breed used most often as guide dogs for the blind. Because they love to fetch for their masters, Labs are very popular as service dogs for those who are wheelchair bound.

So is any dog you take the time to understand and work with properly. So what is the point?
They also will redecorate your house for you, cause you to get dirty looks from your neighbors as they ram their way through your legs to run around in the front yard, destroy walls, shelving, wiring, crates, purses, clothing, etc given the slightest chance. If they don't get enough exercise, and "enough" is A FREAKING LOT, they become hyper, spastic balls of fur that are basically deaf to any commands. They will also eat you out of house and home if given the opportunity.

Let us not forget the barking and shedding that can go with that breed. Some of the most dedicated hobby barkers I have ever experienced have been Labrador Retrievers.
ALL BREEDS have pros and cons.
One does a disservice to the breed and to future owners when pros AND cons are not discussed in a forthright manner.
JMO as always.
A slight disclaimer: Not everything listed has been accomplished by a particular lab. Much of that was accumulated stories from other Lab owners.
Good point about the shedding, Red! These guys are champs...some of them make Huskies look like "light shedders". (I got lucky with Virgo, she's not that bad).
