Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, I used to be involved in a few JRT forums in the day, however time has been an issue of late. I was quite involved in the JRTCA/CC and had a very small kennel, in the past few years I have mostly given up the breeding end of things and am back to being a happy go lucky pet owner.... There are days I sure miss breeding/ trialing however I know I don't have the time to dedicate to being a responsible breeder, as I feel its an all consuming job to research your breed/ genetics and homes etc...
In hind site they say everything happens for a reason, I have one girl who was to be my foundation and though she is fine at 8 years of age her daughter is not... which is the reason I am here now looking for someone else who may have been there done that....
Here's a bit about her:
Her name is Diamond, she is a 6 year old JRT and she has cataracts, she progressed very rapidly and in the past week she has totally lost her vision but maybe a bit of ability to see shadows and contrast. I had her CERFed a while back ( have an appoint. to talk surgery )and was somewhat expecting this but was unprepared for how hard it would be once she went pretty well totally blind. I realized she had lost total vision but for contrast and shadows about a week ago when she was out for a pee and got into some deep snow, she panicked and I had to get her as she could not see her way out and had worked her way to a telephone pole thinking it was me, not sure why she could not tell where I was from my voice except maybe confused because she was so scared.... She does very well in the house and we have learned very fast to talk to her all the time, she is doing much better outside now and we are hopeful that her confidence will be restored fully, it has improved since the incident above....
I am looking forward to chatting with everyone, this seems like a very busy forum so I look forward to being a part of it, I stumbled on it while searching for a forum for blind dogs, which I found, and it has great info but not a very active membership which I can see is not the case here!!!
