Ok, Grizzley just started developing this with his ear. He is itching it and shaking his head side to side and when I looked in his ear it looked like there was dried up blood on the inside. I'm sure it isn't blood, its just the coloring, he hasn't had any accidents. I can tell its bothering him. Its only one ear. the other is nice and clean looking. Is it ear mites, or an infection? I am going to take him to the vet but wanted to see if I could figure it out in the mean time. Thanks!

Well We just came back from the vet and he had a yeast infection in his ear and the vet also said he is allergic to the yeast so thats why his ear was inflamed. He let me look down the little ear gadget (:lol-sign: I am not sure what they are called) and there was all this red cruddy stuff in there But he gave him a shot and gave me drops and pills so Grizz is on his way to feeling better. I asked the vet if I should do regular cleanings to help prevent future infections and he asked me if I have had a lot of experience with dogs and ear infections. I was kinda taken aback, but I guess not everyone is as interested in their dogs as we are, huh?

He is so cute! Brody has ear yeast infections a lot. This is what the vet prescribed to clean his ears with and it really helps. I would check with your vet about it though. http://www.amazon.com/Malaseb-Flush-12oz/dp/B00061MOBG

Chili, our Chihuahua, has yeast infections quite regularly. Typically we get a good supply of both ear wash and ointment from the vet, usually enough to last us through the next year. When her ears inflame, I clean her ears and put in some of the ointment and it clears right up. I believe our vet said that ear infections can be indicative of allergies, as well as constant chewing of the paws and rubbing the face on soft surfaces (such as furniture). He gave us the option of getting her allergy treatments, but they are expensive. We just treat the infections as they come, and I think Chili is okay with that. :)
Glad he's ok! Look for the "Blue Power Wash" recipe that's been posted on here a couple times recently, that seems to get the best results overall from what I've heard.
We need more pictures! You've been slacking! I adore Grizz's split face so much...
(he's really showing some GSD in him now. :D )

If Dante gets Barley he gets an ear infection. Took me a while to figure what the issue was.
