Drontal Plus kills roundworm, tapeworms, and hookworms. Your dog should have had an initial dose through your vet or at your first visit and then another dose that you take home with you, or at your next visit. The doses need to be given 10-14 days apart to be the most effective. The medication is working and that is why you saw the roundworms which by the way can cause an upset stomach. Drontal, like the other wormers out there is a "purge" wormer which means it kills adult worms only, but their eggs are left behind to hatch and that is why you need to do at least 2 doses 10-14 days apart. When the worms die from the drontal, they poop them out  Anyway, if you don't want to go back to your vet for another dose than I would buy Safeguard dewormer and give it at home in about 10-14 days...or, you can always buy an over-the-counter dewormer with the active ingredient being "pyrantel paomate" which is the active ingredient that kills roundworms in Drontal Plus. Another good brand that is made by Pfizer is called NEMEX 2. You can find these on line. Happy worming :)

I never understood why breeders didn't have the Mom checked for worms before breeding and have the pups checked.. I never had any pups with worms.

My puppy had worms too, at her first visit. The vets gave her some medicine and that was it. Then at her next visit she was given another dose.

BUBBATD...it's not as easy as having the mom checked and here is why. While puppies do get roundworms from their mom in utero, or through nursing it is quite interesting how it happens. Roundworms are quite a cycle. The mom before breeding can test negative, but once she becomes pregnant it re-activates dormant flukes/eggs that she will always have and therefore almost all puppies, even well bred puppies usually get roundworms. Once the dam is done having pups and is wormed a few times they clear up etc. This is why it is VERY important to preform interval deworming on the puppies and dam at the same time. Most "good" breeders will have dewormed their pups plenty of times before sending them home, so this is usually not a burden to new puppy owners.

Showdog... sorry I disagree. All of my females were worm free when bred. Of the 100 plus pups I whelped over 40 years, samples from all pups from all litters showed no worms. Each pup 's new families took samples in when ready for their next shots, None ever had worms. I guess I was either thorough or lucky.... I prefer to go with the first.
