Have you tried stuffing a Kong toy with a yummy treat to keep him busy while you are away? If not, go to the store and buy a kong and stuff it with something like peanut butter or a small amount of cream cheese up in the middle of the hole where it will take him a while to get to it etc. This works really well. Another thing you can do it try ignoring him completley for about 20 minuted before you leave and for the same amount of time once you get home. This can sometimes help the puppy realize that your leaving and returning is not that big of a deal. I would also keep some special toys that your puppy only gets to play with when you are away. Another option if you have not already is to crate train your pup to stay in the crate when you are away for short periods. This truly does help dogs/puppies feel more secure and protected when you are not home and I sware by this method. You do need to realize that the puppy may hate the crate and scream and cry to come out, but eventually they adapt and learn to love their crates. My dogs each know what crate is theirs and they never go in the other dogs crates. They sleep in them on their own when they are tired and I think they feel more secure when we are gone and they are crated.

Hi Chilled. Try leaving a shirt of yours wrapped in a warm water bottle for him to lay next to. And give him a safe place to stay. It could be a crate or some other place to be. His poops turn soft because he gets nervous and scared. Sounds like a little bit of separation anxiety. Also, try not to make a big deal about your going and coming. Ignore him 10 minutes before you leave and for 10 minutes after you come home so he doesn't get as excited about it.

My pitbull mix was just like that when we first got him (except he was 7 months old). He didn't like being in his crate when we weren't around (actually he didn't like being in his crate...period). He got over it though, it will probably take your puppy awhile to get used to being alone. All the suggestions that people have told you I would try but I found that with time our dog just got over being left alone in his crate and would lay down and go to sleep.
