Our puppy usually has pretty firm stools but sometimes, at least once or twice a day, she has a soft one. They are hard to pick up because they're so mushy. She is on Chicken Soup for Puppies and we're feeding less than the recommended amount. She has already been getting about 2 tsp of pumpkin in every feeding (twice daily). She's just over 6 mos old. We're getting ready to switch to Premium Edge Adult (chicken rice and veggies) in the next month or so (these are the only premium foods I can get locally and in fact, the Chicken Soup is next to impossible to get, thus the switch). She's pretty active during the afternoon-could that be the cause? My husband farms and this time of year he works around home so she's out there with him a lot during the day. He takes frequent breaks and plays with her and she really runs-he can throw a ball and kick her jolly ball pretty far and she goes nuts. Plus it is pretty cold right now. Could it be the extra activity and the cold weather?

Also she's still pooping a lot (I posted about this before). The other day we were throwing the ball for an hour or maybe hour and a half and she pooped 3 times during that session. She was really running though...and they were not very big amounts. But soft all 3 times.

If it matters she is just about 6.5 months old and probably 35 lbs or so.

It's probably all the activity. Gets things moving you know ;) Mine get soft stools when they are excited or out playing a lot

That must be it then. She gets VERY excited to go out and play and is very active (too active-I hope she calms down by next summer). She really loves her toys and that Jolly ball is just amazing to her! It was a toy we bought for a horse we used to have but sold him. The ball sat in the cattle barn for a while and we forgot about and she found it the other day. She carries it all over the yard.
