I pick up my new pup next Sunday but I am confused about what vaccination protocol is safest.

He was vaccinated 6 weeks, two days old. I understand this is actually too early and especially as he has only just been weaned now around 7 weeks. So I believe he may have NO immunity at all.

So....is it possible to give the PARVAC vaccination at 10 weeks old and then the C3 at 14 weeks?

Or should I do a titre test and see what he actually needs?

Thanks in advance.

It's not entirely true that a nursing puppy will not receive immunity from vaccinations. As the pup ages, it starts to nurse less and less. This gradual decrease in nursing also leads to a gradual decrease in the pup's maternal antibodies. A puppy that was vaccinated at 6 weeks and weaned at 7 weeks most likely did receive some benefit from the vaccination.

I would not titer a puppy, personally. I would vaccinate again at 9 weeks and then again 3-4 weeks later and call it good.

Is there any medical reason you wouldn't titer a puppy?

Thanks for your advice...I'm a bit of a stressing person and just want to make sure he's ok as we've had a parvo case about 15 mins away from us.

A puppy that young that has received 1 vaccine at 6 weeks isn't going to have all that much immunity that would show up on a titer. The immunity has just begun with the first vaccine. It's a waste of time and money to titer that early IMO.

All puppies need a series of vaccinations in order to aquire immunity. Even if your pup received it's first vaccination at 8-9 weeks it would still need another booster and probably one more after that as well. It would be best to just vaccinate the pup based off of normal protocol. After the initial puppy vaccines, you may want to look into titering etc. in the years to come if you are concerned about over-vaccination.

Your best defense against parvo is not the vaccine. Now days, there are man different strains of parvo. The vaccine is only part of prevention. All puppies should be kept away from public dog areas until they have completed all of their vaccines. Don't take the pup on public grass, parks or around strange dogs etc. Your diligence as the pups owner will be the best defense.
