Yep, again. Breed guesses? We know he's half ESS but he doesn't look anything like his mom and is the spitting image of his dad. Except prettier.
He doesn't quite reach my knees at the back, and weighs approximately 45 lbs. So no, he's not a Great Dane, I'm afraid.

I personally see pointer....
~Tucker
Lab/pointer? I see Lab in the tail and the way he walks, but pointer in his face.

The face looks almost exactly like a lab I'm training, but he came from a shelter so who knows if he's pure-bred. The wide forehead reminds me of a rottie, too, but who knows.
Very handsome, I must say!

I was thinking Lab or Pointer too (maybe a mix of both). Looks more Pointer-ish to me though.

I think Lab/Pointer...and maybe something else too, but I can't figure out what it might be.

Ummm, I'm thinking....great dane? Yup, great dane....and maybe some, uh..hmm..err...pit? Yea that's it! He's a pitbull!! Ohh, ohh...and some poodle!
A Grit Bulloodle!
Geez, I'm good.

Useful as always. :p :)
Lab, Pointer, APBT are the most common and most likely guesses. What really gets me about Lab is that he has an APBT-type body, much smoother and thinner than a lab.
I'm personally betting any and all of the above, lol. Thanks for guessing!!!

Field Bred Labs have lean, muscular bodies compared to the fat show Labs.

The head is dead on pointer, or possibly show lab. Show lab would not cause that lankiness even combined with ESS. Therefore, its pointer! ;)

Yep, that head is totally pointer.

POINTER! def. pointer. i was thinking Dane, Dane, Dane, what else has a face like that? POINTER! haha. and his chest says pointer, too. i'm gonna say pointer/lab, and maybe even something like foxhound?

Considering where he came from, if there's lab in him I bet it's BYB lab.

I thought it was ESS and then something else?

Thank you for the photos, Hershel. ;) However, even a field bred lab is still too tubby for him to be half lab, IMO. I've only seen the rare field bred who comes close to being near his skinny-ness, lol.
Yes, he is half ESS. His mother is a BYBred ESS who is about the size of a Jack Russell Terrier, though much wider.
My question is for people to give me guesses on the other side of his parentage. Since his da looks exactly like him and he got nothing but his personality from her, I figured pictures of him would do.. since I don't actually have any of his dad.
And Lauren.. LOL... what Labs aren't backyard-bred these days? I don't think I've ever met one of good breeding. And I don't consider the show ones of good breeding, honestly, they look like Bassets. Labradors are supposed to have nice long legs, you know? Not Giraffe-like, but enough to make them taller.
And some of the other favorite guesses are Rottie and Boxer. :) Today while Cristy and I were sitting in front of Starbucks with Daisy and Middie, one woman even asked if he was a Boxer, lol.

And Lauren.. LOL... what Labs aren't backyard-bred these days?
That's basically what I meant, lol, 98% of labs today seem to be BYB and I doubt any breeders of show or field bred labs are going to be allowing their dogs to breed at random with other dogs.

Well, when you have two of these-

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/NerualSSDD/Izzy%20and%20Frodo%203%20Months/Izzy63m.jpg
that become these-

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/NerualSSDD/Izzy%20and%20Frodo%205%20Months/Izzy65m.jpg
before turning into this (reference siggy), well, smooshyness becomes a priority. xD
(Sorry, I just totally hijaked your thread, lol)

I would say that he defintely has some Pointer in him.. his stance and the way his jawline and head are shaped - its screaming Pointer.
I see lab in the broadness of his skull, but a lot of pointer or hound in his body shape.

You may hijack anything if you post corgi pics.. LOL!
Thanks, RD, Summer. :) With all the consensus of Pointer, I think that's what I'll tell people from now on...

That pointerish head might be the ESS coming out. Get rid of the curly ears, and the ESS head and that of a pointer aren't too different . . .ESS/Lab is my guess.

LOL he is a dead ringer for 2 pure field labs I know..particularly his face. If I ever get back to going to the obed club, I will snap some pics. Really, middie has some twins out there lol. (one's name is Emma)

Having seen him in person, I still really don't think he resembles a Lab. I can see the Spaniel in him, and see more Pointer than Lab overall. He doesn't remind me much of an APBT, either. He's a tiny little guy.
Just make your own breed. Seems to be the "in" thing these days. A Cutedor Springer Pointer. ;)

Maybe not but then so many people think these field bred labs I am referring too are not pure labs. Around here they think all labs are huge blocky dogs with heads as wide as doors.

He really doesn't look lab to me at all, really. Yeah, field labs can get really skinny depending on the lines (though labs aren't supposed to be sighthound thin, some are) but his head shape looks so english Pointer to me. The stop, the domed head, the build, everything is much more pointer than lab imo.

Middie reeeaallly looks Pointer, to me. I thought he was an English Pointer, the first time I saw him! It's crazy that his Mom was an ESS... I never would have guessed that. But, Lab x Pointer is my guess, for the other half. Maybe a little Cocker Spaniel? Something about his face reminds me of a Cocker.
This is my sister's (for sure) Lab x Pointer, for reference. I think there are similarities... in the eyes, and the build, mostly. Except this dog weighs 100 lbs:

I completely, absolutely, see no APBT in Middie. Naddda.

I see no APBT in his either. Or any Bully-type-breed for that matter.
Definitely Pointer/Lab.
*O/T but I LOOOOOVE the second picture of him, those eyes look just like Lizzie's!*

I need to capture it, but sometimes, he really does look like he has some APBT in him. I highly doubt he does, but I swear... it's SO much of a bully-breed look. Maybe when I find the recharged batteries I'll nudge him into a photoshoot.
I know Liz.. I love his eyes, too, they're why I like Lizzie's eyes so much. They almost could be the same ones!

In all honesty I can see him as a Great Dane/Pointer (sire) ESS (dam) mix. The ESS would give the size, the Great Dane/Pointer gives the structure/build. Remember, short hair is DOMINANT in dogs ;)

I say Lab because the thinner body is par for the course in most of the hunting/field Labs nowadays.
