Do you think this site has any merits? I mean, in every breed there are people who say its the best, and people who don't. In my view, this site seems based mostly on opinion, and very little on facts.
I think it's a good way to hear opinions from people who own that particular breed, but as with everything on the internet I'd take it with a grain of salt. Some of the info is going to be pure BS (such as the individual who says border collies should always be entirely outdoor dogs. oy.)

I think the one post about Labs being sickly was ridiculous. They said that if you wanted your dog to die young to get a Lab. One, there dog was 8 years old - which, I suppose, you could call middle aged. Second, there Lab had cancer. Just because one dog in a breed has cancer (or another genetically inherited disease) doesn't mean that all dogs in that breed will. You have to go to a good breeder.
This was about the only one I really disagreed with. This and the one that said they are unintelligent. Seems to me like that one just didn't bother training his Lab.
:)
All opinions, no facts though.

Border Collies only being outside dogs? Border Collies needing lots of land? Border Collies biting people when they push and pull it off the couch? Ungh. My collies have lived outside before and they are much happier as inside dogs. They've lived on property and are happier now being inside all snuggly wuggly in my bed in our smaller house. A trained dog shouldn't be growling at you when you ask it to get off the couch. Makes me wonder why they even let her up on the couch. Bandit use to be like that. He is no longer welcome up on the couch. He has his bed and he sleeps in it. Worked wonders.

If you're picking a breed, all information should be welcome. After looking at several of them, they seem pretty good. But take things with a strong grain of salt. One, people who tend to post on such things either had very good or very bad experiences . . . two, nothing on the internet should be believed without evidence!

Other than the guy talking about using Koehler's training methods on papillons.....:yikes:
Disaster waiting to happen. Prime example of how NOT to train a sensative breed.
And then he couldn't get his dogs to stop yapping. Wonder why.
Anyways, most of the advice is very good and I do think it's good to read what other owners say about the breed.

Be still my heart! An actual quote from one of the beagle reviews:
"Another important note: Because Beagles are such a popular breed you must research very carefully, and be wary of breeders with extremely low prices, puppies "always" available, no background info on sire/dam, etc. Since all it takes to register an animal with the AKC is the sire's and dam's name, "puppy papers" don't mean you've found a quality animal! Responsible breeders may be hard to find, but it's worth the wait and effort - don't bring home an animal who might end up sick in a couple of years and break your heart by passing over the Rainbow Bridge much too soon. Pets are a lifetime friend, so spend the time to find the right one!"
This is actually pretty interesting. Not as good as joining a forum dedicated the the breed you are interested in, but a quick way to get an overview of the good and bad of a breed.
The info on my 3 dogs was pretty much what I've observed regarding their tendencies and traits. The one thing I don't agree with is Great Danes shedding a lot, but I also believe a lot of shedding is due to diet. Neither Daisy nor Gunnar shed much. Bruzer sheds a lot but I bet it's far less than if we fed him a commercial diet.

Neat site. I think the Sheltie reviews were pretty much dead on. The only thing I took issue with was in the breed description at the top where it said that they are "miniature collies".

I think its too bad they only have AKC breeds, but whatevah. It just means I don't have to get ticked off reading stupid Pit Bull reviews.

The AmStaff reviews were very positive.
