Omigosh... an amazing dog story

So, sad. And sadly, once again a pit bull makes it into the news for attacking. This really is sad... first what the dog did, then what they did to the poor dog, then the lab and her big heart. I'm at a loss for words...

Montiel and her 15-year-old son, Michael, yelled to the kids from their windows, warning that a pit bull was loose.
This is what bugs me. I'm careful around any and all dogs that wander around, it doesn't matter if it's a pit bull, chow chow, labrador, or chihuahua, I'm going to be careful around that dog.

"He looked like a wolf coming right at you," Lameka said. "The next thing you know, he came out lunging."
OH, puhleeze. A pit bull loks nothing like a wolf, you @!$%~*& idiot. :mad: You're just enjoying being the big bad sargent that saves the day :rolleyes:.

But after a few seconds, like a horror movie, the dog got up and lunged again. Lameka and Serna began firing again.
Lots of things I could say to THIS.

Despite the bullet wounds -- including three to the head and one to the neck -- India was still alive. Animal Control workers carried her out on a stretcher. She was later euthanized.

I hope this kid relizes that not all dogs are bad, and especially not all pit bulls.

Because it was shot four times, three times in the head, and carried out alive (WITH BULLETS IN IT'S HEAD) and later euthanized. I don't see why they didn't shoot it once more to kill it instead of letting it go through so much pain until they finally euthanized it.

I hear ya. I'm torn between the awfulness of the attack and the awfulness of them shooting the dog like that and letting it suffer.

Once again you beat me to the point....How is this a good story? Too much death to be good anything.

120 lbs pitbull? Pitbulls are meant to be around 60lbs or less...There is a lot more to that dog than pitbull. "Looks like a Wolf"? ah.....in what way does any pitbull look like a wolf? Sounds like dramatics or stupidity.

I noticed that '120lb pit bull' oddity too, but considering the big, big dogs being bred out of the original smaller fighting breeds, I don't think that lets pits off the hook for this dog. While it's obviously inaccurate to call the dog a pit bull and mean a purebred member of one of the breeds commonly known as a pit - AmStaff, APBT, etc. - I think it's fair to assume that the dog wasn't a setter mix - the neighbors may not be dog breeders, but they've probably got at least a passing familiarity with the general appearance of the bulldogs. The reporter should have dug deeper to get a decent idea of what sort of breed or mix it was, instead of a lazy reliance on the simple 'pit bull.'

As in most cities, there is dog fighting going on in Chicago. The goal is to have a large, ferocious animal. They don't want a forty of sixty pound animal, they want hundred and over. They're breeding their most aggressive dogs, and they're breeding them to be large.

I think it gottn' to the point that saying "Pitbull" is like saying "Hunting Dog" when referring to a Lab or Golden. There is at least 25+ breeds that people lump together as Pitbulls.

I think that's legit in everyday usage - similar dogs, similar backgrounds. The reporter, on the other hand, is making a permanent record of a newsworthy event and is supposed to supply all the hard facts he can find, not just parrot the cultural understanding of what a big bad dog is.

Not sure I agree with it being a legit use of the word, I think bully breed is a more accurate blanket to use. I wonder how Bullmastiff or English Bulldog owners would feel about it be culturally ok to call their dogs pitbulls...

I don't think many people look at the spraddle-legged freakshow that is an English Bulldog and think "pit bull." And I seriously doubt that anyone looks at a Bullmastiff and thinks "big bad dog." All the seriously pretentious McMansion owners near me have one, and I guarantee they aren't making a connection between their ponderous suburban status symbol and the dog popularized in the media as a ghetto status symbol.

Well I have seen people ask a friend of mine if her Boston Terrier was a Pitbull....lol. You would be suprised just how stupid some people are.
