I'm getting my bulldog puppy in early August and was just wondering if there were any Bulldog owners who had an special tips on raising them. I've done plenty of research, but it's always nice to hear from personal experience.

Be very careful about heat exposure. Due to the construction of their skulls they don't have as much surface area in their noses to cool their brains, and they're extremely prone to heatstroke. I have heard they're big sweethearts, but be prepared for snoring! ;)

I am not a Bulldog owner but I AM a Bulldog LOVER :D I have pugs and require almost everything living in my house to have a smooshed in face :D Good for you, good choice!! The other post was 100% correct. We saw so many die on a hot day when I worked at the vet clinic. So sad, they are the most precious babies.

Oh also, be careful about yeast infections in the skin folds, just make sure to dry them out really well if the dog gets wet.

GSDFan...you should get a smooshy face dog...you are good at the info!!!! Right again, smooshy faced breeds need to be cleaned regularly and the tail fold on the bulldog as well. I like Malaseb pledgets because they are medicated and fight yeast!!!

I read all about those problems before I made the decision to buy my new baby. Due to the fact that I live in an apartment in FL he'll be spending the majority of his time indoors. I too love smooshy faced dogs as you say. I thinks that what drew me to bulldogs in the first place. Thanks for all of the advice and you can be sure that I wil do my best to help him avoid all of the problems that can arise.

This was taken not too long after he was born. As you can see, the date on the camera is a little off. ;) I think he's precious.

LOL thanks, just stuff I've picked up at work. I'm a 'big dog' girl, probably the only short faced dog I'd consider owning would be a boxer...but I do like admiring other people's smooshy pets! :D
I owned Bulldogs for years before falling in love with the Olde English (which really are not that much different to be honest) although my dogs dont tend to suffer that much in the heat.
They can be very prone to allergies in the hot weather, so make sure you keep some Piriton to hand, make sure the face is bathed daily I used to use Savlon on my Bullies faces to stop build up of germs and to keep infection at bay, also bottoms need to be wiped daily after doing poo`s to stop infection getting underneath the tail area, as this can very quickly become ulcerated if not wiped..housetraining can be hard with Bulldogs because of their stubborn natures I had one that was not fully housetrained at 10 months old  But you can`t help but love them :D
Good luck with your pup :)

I was going to buy a Show and Breeding puppy but after reaseaching how closely they are inbred in my area at least, decided not too.I will be buying one someday as long as I can find one with no inbreeding-line breeding within the first 3 generations. They also can be quite gassy lol.So can my hubby though so oh well. They are adorable arent they.

I just love these dogs. I have never ever met a mean one. Never met one that wasn't wagging it's entire butt. :D
