Hi everyone,
I have been watching my friends dog while she is on vacation. He is a four year old lab mix. Whenever we go for a walk and we happen to pass a house with a dog in the yard or another dog walking past us he starts barking and trying to jump on them. He tries to bite at them. Does anyone know how I can keep him from doing this? Thank you.

A firm "heel" command will help, also teaching the dog to "focus" start with the command and a treat when you get even a glance from the dog, start in a place with no distractions, like a quiet room in your house. Eventually start lengthening the time you want your dog to look at you between treats.
Slowly but surely add distractions, maybe put the TV on, then try in the backyard, frontyard, on the nature strip etc. Also practice the command while walking along and get them to hold your gaze.
I'm teaching this to Buster atm as he has dog Aggression. I'm also working on desensitizing him to other dogs. When I'm walking him, as soon as he begins reacting to a dog, whether it be another dog on lead or a dog behind a fence I turn back and walk the other way. Slowly but surely he'll learn that acting up doesn't get him any closer, it gets him furthr away.
Or ofcourse, a behaviourist. Busters behaviour is out of hand now, I know basically what I need to do but am now seeking help form a behaviourist with his issues.

Ok Sparky, this is starting to remind me of the former poster who was gathering questions for a website feed so that he could post them for his "clients". Next thing we knew our posts were there with all those answers he/she couldn't give, so he/she got them from us.
What's the gig here Sparky? Last week you had a JRT and a question. Then no more JRT and you wanted advice on the right dog to get. Now you are babysitting a dog and need another answer. One post and then you leave the thread. Back in business are ya?
Just askin'.
