... This is the most awful thing I've seen on a webpage.

Well, I thought I've seen it all until tonight... teacup schnauzers, merle cockerspaniels, teaspoon chihuahuas... I guess I was wrong.

I've never seen anything like this before... and these people live an hour away from me :yikes: Their name is Top Hat Chihuahuas.

They are selling... *Drumroll, please*... Platinum Suede Velveteen Chihuahuas :yikes:

Taken straight from their website:

"Our Velveteens Offer Little To No-Shedding, Unique Coats, Exotic Colors and UnMatched Elegance

Our Platinum Velveteens Available in:True Silvers, Platinum Sateen, Champaigne Lilac, Shades of Peach, Sky Blues & Mocha"

Now, if that isn't disgusting enough, these puppies are priced from $2500 and up!

It says on their site that they don't breed merles (thank god, right), however merles are an AKC accepted pattern. However, teacups, micros, and Platinum Suede Velveteen (oh geeze) aren't even an existant kind of chi.

Here's the site:

I am not arguing with you guys. I trust that your judgements are correct but I know nothing of breeding and buying purebred dogs. I know some things so stay away from but I wouldnt know how to pick a good respectable breeder from a line up. This is why I stick to adopting. Nothing politically incorrect about that no matter how you look at it. I understand that those "breeds" dont exist and those prices are insane but why are you guys SO angry. It isnt that I am saying your feelings are unjustified or that you are overreacting I just honestly dont understand the reasons for your opinion and I want to learn more about this. I have heard you guys talk like this before and have always been afraid to ask for fear of being misunderstood and arguing with you. Just explain your entire arguement. Just get mad and rant on so I can understand better.

What does this mean? Just that they are ultra-short-haired? If so (not to be petty, of course) looks like the breeder should follow their lead. Yikes.

Wow! That's all I can say! The babies are still cute but they didn't ask for this the poor little babies.

The reason people get mad is because these people are breeding just to make money. They do no health testing so are selling you puppies for WAY too much money and then those puppies can have many genetic and behavioral problems you won't find with a puppy from a good breeder. They don't show either so there dogs aren't proven to be high quality dogs. These puppies are being born for no other reason than to make those people money. They aren't bettering the breed like a GOOD breeding should do.

These puppies are being bought by people who either a.) aren't educated enough to know what to look for in a good breeder or b.) who know but just don't care because that puppy is SO cute!!! These puppies are taking away homes that could go to dogs waiting in shelters and therefore they are adding to the pet overpopulation problem. More than likely some of these puppies will become too much to handle for the new owners at one time or another and unlike a good breeder who will take a puppy (or even adult dog) back if the owner finds they can no longer care for the animal these people will not. Therefore the dog will end up in a shelter further adding to the pet overpopulation problem. These people probably won't even care because they've already made their money off the sale and that's as far as they will go.

Noone will get mad at you for not knowing better we're here to help you understand and try to educate you so that you can make a more informed decision and help other people understand as well.

So the dogs have absolutely noregistration since it isnt a real breed? and people spend that much money?

So the dogs have absolutely no registration since it isnt a real breed? and people spend that much money?

Well what happens is the people who breed super tiny dogs get dogs with super huge health problems. They also do no health screenings. The only reason people should breed is for the betterment of the breed if they are not doing that then they are adding to the pet over population problem. Since this is not a breed and since the breeder has done nothing to prove her dog is better than any other Chi she is destroying that breed one litter at a time. She breeds for money, the dogs are not her top priority, money is, that is why she has "rare" colors, that is why "teacup"chihuahuas exist. The things people come up with to make people buy their dogs is becoming outrageous, people should buy your dogs because they are healthy, well tempered and of better conformation quality than others of their breed. And there is proof of that, health screenings, championships and their dogs being therapy pets, or going through an organized test to test their temperament (forgot what they're called).

People are angry because she is destroying that breed, a breed cherished by many on this forum, because she is making extremely unhealthy puppies, and because her and breeders like her are the reason so many animals are put to sleep every year. good breeder will take back her 12 year old chi who is no longer wanted, a bad breeder's (this breeder's) will end up in a shelter and due to age will probably never leave. A good breeder has homes lined up for her puppies before they come and if any fall through they are willing to keep all the pups. A bad breeder would dump them in a shelter. a good breeder makes a spay and neuter contract so that their puppies don't get into the wrong hands and be irresponsibly bred.

Now good breeders need to breed so that they keep their breed alive or eventually we would run out of breeds. But it is the breeders job to make sure she is making these dogs be the best they can be in health, conformation (in many breeds working ability also) and temperament. This breeder is not doing her job, she is simply destroying that wonderful breed of dog.

Chihuahuas are a registered breed, the colors she's breeding are faults. That shows us that the only reason she is breeding is for money. If it were not for money the colors would be excepted colors and the dogs would be less expensive.

They suggest all their dogs should be on daily nutrical for life cause they are 1.9-4 pounds...

And is anti akc I have had my share of experiences with breeders & AKC Champions.
I have ended up obtaining some of the most extremely ugliest dogs!!

Nice grammar..

She also points out why the contkc sucks.. seems they DNA the dogs.. but they aren't registered? She's nasty about both registries but the bottom of every page says Akc/Ckc Micro Applehead Chihuahuas

If you are skeazy and you know it clap your hands...

I see she also breeds pugs..

I like the 'most ugliest dogs' too.

What is platinum suede velveteen supposed to mean? Just curious as to what she's trying to claim here. It sounds kind of like she just threw some random words together.

I get that 'teacups' are overly small.... micro chihuahua puppies? What are they only a few ounces?

I like the term 'rare and exotic chihuahuas'. lol

I'm guessing that Platinum Suede Velveteens are mostly hairless... or extremely short haired. So basically they're chihuahuas without the correct coat type =/

Laurelin
09-15-2007, 11:59 AM
Well...

Platinum= silver colored

Suede= short, soft hair?

Velveteen= short soft hair? (Repetitive much?)

Or perhaps velveteen is referring to rabbits.

I can't figure out of the Platinum in the name is referring to color or "high class" (like the Platinum Mastercard).

Look at the colors they have...
True Silvers
Platinum Sateen
Champaigne
Lilac
Shades of Peach
Sky Blues
Mocha

I am guess that this person must be breeding dilutes to dilute which in the end produce alopecia which in a sense creates a thin coated/hairless dog.
I guess a dog with no hair or sparse hair would feel like suede.

weird names = more money

Think about it, if people breed golden poodle mixes the would not get nearly as much money as people who bred Goldendoodles

You get more money for "teacup" or "micro" Chihuahuas than you would for "abnormally small" or "runt" Chihuahuas.

and just making them sound so soft and fancy pushes the price up, Champagne, velvet, platinum, silver all sound expensive or fancy. Candy apple? I guess it makes them sound Oh so sweet!

Maxy, that is awesome.. can I put that quote in my sig? Pleeeeeeeeease? With sugar on top? For pictures of Middie trying to drive? Pretty please?

The puppies are actually kinda cute, which shocked me. But all her dogs look depressed and unsure of themselves. It's weird. And she has SO many! Not to mention Pugs, and her poor Persians are disgusting! Matted and ungroomed.... the kittens don't even look Persian, IMO. Not to mention that the kittens in the picture are in a cage, but they are being sold with a "no cages agreement."

I think, for the amount of animals, she has graduated from a BYB to a small scale mill.

Check GDC!

The thing is, Jessie, my favorite looking Chi puppies are the ones who fit the breed standard.. nice apple heads and short muzzles, those cutie-patootie little bat ears. Deerheaded pups don't do much for me, not usually. (I guess what I mean here is that it actually has to bear some resemblance to a Chi for me to think it's cute.) The funny thing is that I saw one or two I thought were cute. Shocking.

I want a candy apple chihuahua, now. :(

Who else thinks she has hair extensions? and some really awful ones. lol. They look kinds crunchy. She just makes up random adjectives that may or may not describe the dog and creates a new type of dog. She "lol"s a lot and "lmao"s quite a bit too.

These sort of thread, besides being extremely sad, are also rather funny and it always gets interesting then the breeder themself comes on and tries to justify what we all have said about them, with out really addressing any of our concerns. I always check back to see if the breeder chimes in. I wonder if she will. Although all she will do is avoid anything we ask her.

Also I find it sad and funny too to see the pictures of the new owners with her dogs. It's like they are saying "Hi look at me! I am the moron who paid $2500 for this dog!" I also feel bad when it is a pictures with kids in it and how they don't realize their parents are complete idiots.

*aims all 6 cannons and opens fire* her hair looks extreemly flamable, mabe i should fire some hot shots over there too!

poor pups, double dilutes for that short coat texture...they have alopecia whihc will likely worsen as they get older and lead to worse...*sigh*

I'm disgusted by anyone who advertises for color/coat type/etc, not health.

Health and temperment should be the first things, of course. I don't mind people listing coat color and type though. After all, some people, including some knowledgable people want a particular color or coat type, or, conversely, don't want a certain color or coat type. My mother, for example, keeps standard poodles. When she's looking for a new puppy, she ignores advertisements that only list white standards, because she doesn't want a white dog. Saves everyone some time.
