View Full Version : Regular harness stopped her pulling!!
I have had Lily for 3 months and she has been pulling my arm out of joint whenever I take her for a walk. I have tried everything, all the stopping and the walking in other directions, the Gentle Leader collar, the GL harness (she kept getting out them). Finally, I just got her a regular harness (Aspen) and I can't believe how she has improved on her pulling. I can almost walk her with 2 fingers! It's just amazing! Anyone know why this would work with her? The GL collar and harness worked with the pulling but she would get a fit every so often and twist and turn and manage to get out of them, so I was scared of it. The only thing I can think of is she thinks its still the GL harness. Is that possible?

Could be she thinks its the GL harness, could also be that wherever the walking harness' pressure points are when she pulls are sore so when she tries to pull it hurts...

That's really great, but OC is on to something. The Aspen harnesses aren't very well designed--they caused Herschel a lot of irritation after a while. Keep checking her skin under her armpits and on her stomach to make sure it isn't red or pink.
Have you considered getting a Puppia? http://www.bowsawowsa.com/product_info.php?products_id=112
They are incredibly comfortable for the dog and very durable.
I doubt the regular harness has her sore, since she walked great the first time I ever put her on it..... we have only walked about 3 or 4 times for about 20 min each time and the harness comes right off when we are done, so I am sure it isn't making her sore. There is no redness on her skin anywhere that I can see. I think she either thinks she is still on the GL harness or something about the leash on the collar makes her think she should pull...... other than that, I have no clue, but it makes me happy!:)

Some dogs feel comforted by the regular harness (think "anxiety wrap"). Others may have been walked on a harness when young - if she's a rescue perhaps she was, too. Anyway, if it's working for her that's a good thing.
