HI All,

Just wanted to introduce myself, I am new to these boards. I recognize some of the members here from other boards, so "Hi" again to those guys! :D (Thanks for the link to these boards Annie!!)

I have 2 JRT (Dasher and Zip) and a lab (Lille). I do agility with my jacks, our lab is enjoying retirement. I have been involved/competing in agility for about 10 years, my first agility dog was a Dal. I also have ridden horses most of my life and used to compete in the hunter/jumper circuit.

Can't wait to explore the boards! :D

Welcome to Chaz...I'm just a wee babe myself, but I've found this to be a FUN place and full of FUN (and occasionally intelligent) people! (Though I'm definitely not one of the latter)

Welcome to Chaz, it's fun.

Yay agility :)

how was running with a dal? i always imagined they'd be awesome in the ring.

Hmmm, running with a dal....let's just say it was a learning experience!! :lol-sign:

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED my dal, Reese. He was a super dog. But getting a dal to do things when YOU want them to is another story. ;) Its not that he wasn't fast (he was super fast!) its not that he wasn't athletic (he could clear our fence no problem if he wanted to), it was just getting him to do the course in the order that was presented was sometimes a problem! :D

Maybe since dals were bred to work independently (guarding and running along side a carriage) it made working as a team a bit of a challenge. One minute he was with me, the next whoosh...he was gone! :D Keeping him focused was our constant challenge. One thing Reese taught me early on was humility!

We did manage to get some titles which was great, but man we WORKED for every Q we got!

Here is a picture of Reese:

He's gorgeous :)

anything like running with a JRT. (ie, making them think that they're doing what you want them to because they want to do it?)

Thanks milos mommy, I loved my Reese man, he was a great dog.

Can't speak for all JRT, but mine are the complete opposite from my dal. They are super drivey and very biddable. They love to work and bend over backwards to please. They both love playing agility and love learning.

I think a lot of it is the breed but also hope I have evolved over the years with my training. Eons ago when I trained Reese (dal) I didn't clicker train. Both my jacks are clicker trained which I think really helps them "get it" if you know what I mean. :D

Reese is a cutie! I have to admit when you said you did agility with a Dal I was like :yikes:. That I would loved to have seen.

Is Zip going to come to the October trial?

Thanks Annie!

Yes, Zip will be at the Oct trial, not competing just hanging out as part of Dasher's entourage :D

Hello & welcome to Chaz. Have you done agility with your lab? Several years ago I used to go to agility training with my Border Collie. My cousin used to go too with her lab, a very petite lab. She didn't do much jumping with her bc she said labs land too heavily & didn't want to ruin her joints.
