Dog Food For Thought

Most of us are guilty at sometime of pampering
our dog and occasionally giving a treat for no reason.

Sometimes we even give them table scraps, I guess
as a way to include them as closely in our life
as we can. The dog sure don't mind and will eagerly
eat most anything we give them.

Did you know that some very common foods that we
as humans eat and enjoy can be dangerous or cause
discomfort for dogs?

It is common knowledge that chocolate is not good
for dogs and in fact can be fatal to a canine.

The darker the chocolate usually the higher content
of the chemical compound theobromine.

Other foods such as high fat meat products, caffeine,
onions, and even green potatoes can cause serious
problems and should not be feed to your dog.

Even though a spill of coke or a dropped hersey's
kissy won't harm your dog, in greater quantities
it may. It is best to not let your dog acquire a
taste for these foods by always paying attention
to what you give him to eat.

Good advice! With the exception of some things like chocolate, though, you can figure that if you eat good, nutritious food, it won't hurt your dog, as long as you don't give him or her enough that it interferes with eating a well balanced dog food that provides proper nutrition.

My Bear used to love the taste of Corona. I wouldn't let him have it very often, or very much, but every now and then our neighbor would share a taste with him! No Budweiser, no MGD, just Corona. He also had a passion for anything with marinara sauce - or pizza (another little treat he didn't get much of; the after effects were noxious). Shiva likes sauerkraut. Bimmer prefers fresh caught groundhog - ugh.
