i just finally brought my little guy home today everyone, sry i havent written for about a week. i took ur guys advice and postponed me getting him for another week( best we could come up with) so now hes 7 weeks.
i brought him home and when i took him outside he went potty that must be a good sign. i want to socialize him though because he's really really clingy to you but seems kinda freaked out by strangers, he just backs up and stuff, i dont know if thats part of him being young, or cuz hes only 7 wks.
I want to take him to the park but im pretty sure he cant go for even 10 minutee walks yet he wobbles when hes walking unless hes playing then he's ok, and is a little speedy gonzalas. We're taking him to the vets in a few days so i am sure everythings great i guess i just wanted another plaace to post my good news!!!

Congrats on your new puppy! You will have so much fun! :)
As much as you want to bring him to the park, etc. to show him off (we all go through it which ea. new addition :) ) it is very important that you hold off until he has had all of the shots. The vet will tell you when it is OK to expose him to the great big exciting world. The safest place for him right now is staying home and getting adjusted to his new home.
He will be very clingy - he just lost everything that was familiar to him and it is going to take him some time to adjust to his new home. Hold off a few days before you have loads of visitors - you don't want to overwhelm him. Plus, little furguys require a lot of rest.
Again, congrats!

Congrats on the new pup. He must be adorable....can't wait for pictures! 7 or 8 weeks is fine... a good age.
Parvo is an especially scary disease and it IS indeed scary to take a new puppy out into the world before he's protected by vaccines. HOWEVER....it is my opinion that if you wait until the pup has had all his shots, he'll be about 16 to 21 weeks of age. If you wait that long to begin socializing him, you're going to end up with a fearful, shy, maladjusted dog. They've got to be socialized early, having a lot of experiences by the age of 4 months and thereafter forever. After 4 months, if they've not experienced all kinds of things and people, you won't be able to re-coupe that window of time. Their little personalities are really getting firmed up and their brain patterns getting set. So, I think you need to take precautions and not go where there are lots of dogs you don't know, who may not have been vaccinated, but the pup should meet other, friendly dogs, maybe a friend's who's been vaccinated and is healthy. I realize that they can pick parvo up off the ground. But, again....the delima. It is important not to overwhelm or frighten your pup with his new experiences or to make a fuss over him when he is acting afraid. Here's a good site which is recommended... that you can find out more about it: http://www.asah.net/behavior_topics_35.htm
Good luck and congrats on your new puppy.

When I took Gracie for her first walk I wasnt sure how far she could actually tolerate walking so I carried her part of the way. We still dont do long walks. We walk to the field and down the street and back. I have been working with her on commands since a few days after I got her. I gave her time to get settled in first.

yes my baby doesnt seem to like to walk he lies down , and when you go to far he follows you and tries to jump on you , so he wants to be held. right now me carrying him is his walk. i have another question though today which i will post on the training board.
