My poodle has suddenly started limping. He won't even step on his hind leg. I have pulled, prodded, massaged, and checked him over for anything that might have been in his toes or on his legs or bum, nothing. He won't whimper or care if you touch his leg. I even held up his opposite leg so he had to put weight on his sore leg and he didn't yelp or seem to care, but he carries it high so it won't touch the ground when he walks. He will still walk around and doesn't seem to want to just lay around. Still jumps up and off the bed.
I need him to be better for tomorrow b/c we have agility tomorrow!! What could be wrong.

I would say no agility tomorrow.

Orson had a limp in his front leg awhile back, I couldn't find anything visually wrong, no cuts, scrapes, nothing stuck in a paw..........so off to the vet we went.

She could find nothing visually wrong either......no particular spot that made him flinch. She gave him 227 mg of Previcox (anti inflammatory) he had to take one a day for ten days. He had to stay off leg as much as possible. With in a few days he was limping very slightly.........and with in 5 it disappeared completely.

At the very least.........try and keep him off of it until you see if it worsens or gets better.

Go in to the vet if at all possible.

Thanks, I will hold off on the vet for a few days just because he doesn't seem stressed out at all by if but if it doesn't get better by monday it will have to be off to the vets.

Go to the v et. Never normal for a dog to do that.

Sudden onset non-weight bearing on a hind leg can mean torn cruciate. If he has torn a cruciate, he requires surgery. Hopefully that's not what happened.

Aren't Poodles susceptible to something in their hind legs that can do this? I vaguely remember some hereditary issue that causes weird things in the hind end, but I can't remember what.

Most small dog breeds can have a problem called a luxating patella. The first time I took Stryder in when I first got him the vet said that his knees were a bit loose but the next time she said that they felt fine so now I don't know.
He has an appointment with the vet tomorrow at 11.

Good........let us know what the verdict is :).........never know when someone else will pop up with the same problem.

Thanks for the replies. I have been trying to keep Stryder fairly immobile but that's virtually impossible. I just took him out to go potty and he seems to be walking on it slightly, when he's walking slow, butsometimes even when walking slow he holds it off the ground. I am not sure though that his good leg is just getting tired from hopping around so he has to use his sore leg or if his sore leg is actually getting better. Hopefully it's just getting better.

I would definitely have a vet check it out. I know when my dog had torn her ACL, the vet said that the other leg could get injured too because of the strain of not using the bad leg.

***Update***
Stryder is looking much better today. More and more he is starting to use his sore leg and not hop around. I have decided to cancel his appoinment that I had for today, of course I can reschedule it for tuesday if his leg isn't healed up by then. I will let you know what happens!
