My great great aunt had/has a chihuahua with epilepsy...
but after some encouragement from yours truly, she changed the dogs food and after about two months the dog stopped having seizures. hmmm ;)
I've actually never seen one happen, and I've only met the dog once or twice. I bet that is really heartbreaking (((hugs))) to you and the dog! :)

I have never faced dog epilepsy in action, but I hope this article with advice on diet, supplements, exercise etc. for such dogs might be helpful for you: http://www.purelypets.com/articles/epilepsyarticle.htm

One of my standard poodles, Chloe, started having seizures and ended up being put on pheno to try to control them. I did not want her to have seizures but I also didn't want her to have to stay on pheno long term so I did alot of on-line research. Based on what I found I changed her food to VanPattens Natural Balance Potato and Duck and a month later stopped the meds. She has been seizure free since and it has been about a year now. Here are some links that have some info that you might find interesting.

I know a woman who has a Dane with seizures and went to a grain free raw diet. The dog is now off pheno and it has been 7 months since his last seizure.

Please take the time to read this. Some dogs' seizures can be completely stopped just by switching to a gluten, casein and soy free diet : http://www.dogtorj.net/id2.html
A good example of gluten, casein and soy free foods are:
www.canidae.com
www.naturapet.com (California Natural chicken and rice or lamb and rice formulas only)
Good luck.
