Does anyone else live in an area with rampant foxtail?? We just brought Zoe in from a walk and pulled a bunch of little pointy seeds out of her feet. Scares me to death because I understand they can burrow in and get in the blood stream. Does anyone know more about it?

We have it here but I don't think it's the same as what you guys have out west. I know it can be VERY problematic for dogs because it's one of those things with barbs that make it so it can get under the skin and you can't get it out. I know it can also cause eye, ear and nose irritation. I would keep a close eye on the areas you pulled the seeds out and watch for infection or abcess.

Yes.

*sigh*

Why is it I always have stories to tell?

*shakes head*

Buddy got one up his nose, the poor guy. They are serious and need to be dealt with immediately.

Good luck, they run rampant in many parts of the bay area, Scooter!

Thanks, I went on the internet and did some research. We live near a lot of open fields on the Peninsula, so we can't let her run free anymore until the season is over. I have been checking her paws, ears, everything every time I bring her in from a walk. Why can't they eradicate this stuff?

Good question.
