View Full Version : Why I Failed Fostering 101..........

I have been a foster home for a little over a year for our local no kill rescue. My first 2 fosters came as a set. They were on a chain across the street from me. The rescue agreed to take them in, but had no where to put them, so I stepped up and offered to hold them, and I became addicted and have been fostering like a crazy person ever since!!!!
Max is a border collie/terrier cross, and he was adopted right away. His sister, Belle, a treeing walker coon hound, had absolutely no interest shown in her (probably becuase of the area of the country that we are in). And, my husband fell in love with her, so we decided to make her number 6 in our pack, making us officially a 6pack!!!!!
So, here she is, Belle, the wonderful coon hound, brought into foster in Feb of 2006, and still here becuase we love her........................

Aww she's precious. :) We have a lot of hounds in our area too, because in Central VA it's legal to use them to hunt deer, and the ones that don't make good hunters get dumped. I'm with a rescue called FOHA and we always have hounds. They do seem to take a while to be adopted though. I think its because people think they are going to bay all the time or something.

What a great addition to the family. I'm glad she has a permanent home with you and can give/get so much love.

Thanks, sweet.
I think that hounds are not quickly adopted here becuase if the hunters get tired of them or frustrated with them, they just shoot them and use another one.
And Belle definitely is a bayer, but not at inappropriate times!! LOL!!!!! I like it when she sings, it makes me giggle.:)

Well, we have the core 6 pack, and then we foster in addition to them. I have 3 fosters right now, for a total of 9!!!!! We have had as many as 12 for short periods of time, but I try to keep us to 10 or less, total.:)

I am ashamed to say that I assisted in backyard breeding 2 chi's to get Bear and the Babee, and that was BEFORE I knew about pet overpopulation. These 2 are the only dogs that we have (or ever will have) that are not true rescues.
But these 2 are what started the dog craze around here.:)

Thanks, squirtsmom!!!!!
I have 3 more dogs out of my pack to post, but someone just dropped off 2 seven week old puppies unexpectedly, and one of them has a broken leg, so I had to go.
Any advice on the leg would be appreciated. The vet was already closed, and I am taking him in first thing in the morning.
