We live on 6 acres and our 1 yr. old lab has the run of the place. No way to fence it all in and she helps with the animals so we don't want to confine her to her own area. But we live on a busy corner. If someone pulls over across the street she will go out to the middle of the street and bark at them until they leave (stopping traffic.....thank goodness the corner has a stop sign). I have got to train this out of her ASAP before she gets hurt. I can call and call but she pays no attention (she would if a stranger were not there). What should I do?

Also, 99% of the time she stays on the property. But on three occasions she left. Once way across the farmers field in back of us and two other times across the street and way across another field. Both times we had to go get her. Is it possible to train them to stay....even when they know you are not watching them?

One last question. What is the best way to tie a dog? She can pull those spiral things out of the ground. SHe breaks the connector between her line and her collar. Sometimes she manages to get the collar off. I don't know how. This dog will not be tied! We love her dearly and she is a very good dog...great with the animals and kids. But for her own safety I have to train her to stay on the property. Help!

Well it sounds like you need a fence. Six acres is not that much to fence off and I'd really reconsider. Particularly since staking her out in the yard is not a very safe option.

I really like this site and I think this article might help you. http://www.clickerlessons.com/advanced.html

WHy don't you try the the invisible fence using a collar. They are pricy but it works. THey sell it at petsmart.
