What breed is your dog? Hounds and terriers and invisible fences don't mix because of their extremely high prey drive.

I would use boundary training.

It just doesn't work for some dogs. I've been told that if the dog wont stay in your boundries while your watching him, that the fence will do no good. The companys that instally them are supposed to have a good training program though.

I'd suggest what I've done with all my dogs though and just walk them around the perimeter of the yard where they are allowed to go. If they step out, correct them. It worked for two of them, but the corgi and the husky are not meant for any type of boundry training. You do this everytime you take the dog out for a while. I think its basically what the fence people train but they use the shock or sound when they get close to the boundry.

An electric fence doesn't always work. I know somebody who has a Beagle, and while the dog is deathly afraid to go anywhere near the electric fence, he did get out one time. He just ran through the shock.
Is it not a possibility to fence your yard? I know that that isn't a possibility for us, so I just have to always have our dogs on leash.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck with it!

You may have to put her on one of those overhead tethers when she is in the yard.

Is the electric fence the only fence you have? If so, you might be better off with a privacy fence around your backyard. If you can cut off some of the enticements from outside the yard, you'll have a much better chance of keeping her contained.
