Keeping a new litter warm

Experienced breeders - What is your favorite method to keep a litter warm and prevent chilling. I have microwaveable heating discs http://snugglesafe.co.uk/heatpad.htm , but am starting to think I'll need better methods. I am thinking about an actual heating pad, but have heard horror stories about cooking puppies, I am also thinking about a heating lamp. Anyway, what do you use and do to prevent chilling of your litters?

my boss had heat lamps that were installed no wiring accessable to the puppys, always and an area where they could get away from it too. They weren't a high wattage, just enough to keep your hands warm. I wish i had a pic of our young pup area but i don't.:(

I used a heating pad in a box for pups as others were being whelped ....but not in pen . I never used lights but did cover the pen to keep out drafts. Golden pups were all around a lb and healthy and Mom's head was fine . Really depends on where they are and time of the year . I prefered not to keep things warm enough for Mom to pant .The pups moving to warm areas is stimulating to them too . This was for Goldens !!! Not small fragile breeds !
