Good Afternoon -

This is my first post after lurking over the past 4 months.

I appreciate all the stickies and other information I've gathered here.

We had put our rottie to sleep last summer after she was diagnosed with bone cancer and she was in a lot of pain. I hated seeing the hurt in her eyes, but she is at peace now with our dobie and another golden running free!

Our family is picking up the new addition to our family this coming Saturday.
She is an eight week old golden.

My question is: We need to travel 2 hours with her on the way home. What should we be prepared for on the way home? Is there a way to prevent car sickness with this little one?

Thanks much,
Laura in SE PA

I would have a crate and a good supply of towels for clean-up, just in case. Not all dogs get carsick though, so you might be lucky in that respect. I've heard most puppies just kind of curl up on your lap and sleep most of the way home.

Congrats and good luck!

Thanks for your insight.

We have two crates, but they are both too large for the car <smile>.

Therefore my husband will be holding "Apache" on his lap.

Your ideas are what we are planning for - I guess I was looking for confirmation.

Thanks - Happy Spring!

Welcome to you and to your soon to be new Golden !!! My daughter picked up their new Golden pup at Christmas and had about the same drive . They had a box , towels etc etc . Seger slept in their laps practically the whole time . No accidents ... no problems ! Anxious to see pictures !!! What's her name ???

Hi,

Her name is "Apache". My husband is a computer/internet/programming "nut" and we wanted a name reflective of that.

I have a picture from the breeder that is in a word document, but I cannot figure out how to post it.

I'll have plenty of pictures to post this coming weekend :)

From someone who has a dog known to get car sick at times, I should say just keep the anxiety level (yours and for your pup) low. I think others will agree that car sickness is often the result of anxiety rather than motion sickness like humans get. Our puppy got sick on her long car ride and we quickly learned to help her by making sure she's comfortable and not feeling any anxiety. She hasn't gotten sick again!

One thing to look for is excessive drooling . . . that's a sign of car sickness. If you notice that your pup is drooling a lot, pull over and just take a little walk . . .

Good luck and congrats!

Our Golden had an 8 hour drive home. We just let her out a few times and made sure we brought enough water. She slept most of the time
