too much peanut butter?

Yesterday i gave Jager a kong full of peanut butter before heading off to work, like i do pretty much every morning (sometimes it's a rawhide bone and empty kong, or kong with frozen kibble)

I came home, we went for a long walk, i ate dinner, we played. Then i needed to go to wal*mart for a while, so i stuffed the kong again and put Jager back in his crate. I came home, cut up a hot dog to use for training, and we did a couple few training set ups with my cousin helping.

I fed the cat and dog, and Jager ate REALLY fast. Almost the second he was done, i threw a tennis ball for him. He brought it back, gave it right away, and proceeded to vomit almost on my feet. I didn't think too much of it, it was undigested kibble and water, i figured i should have waited before letting him run around right after eating.

This morning i fed him (less than usual, because he's probably getting overfed) and went upstairs to have my own breakfast. I came down to more vomit. The food in his bowl (breakfast) still hasn't been touched. Jager is usually done in about 2.4 seconds. I get not wanting to eat if his stomach is upset.

He hasn't thrown up since i first got him and was definitely overfeeding him. (i was giving him 6 cups of puppy chow a day!)

He eats 1 1/2 cups of dry food (it's not the best, i've read those threads, that's not what this is about, please don'g go there) twice a day. If he's done a lot of training and gotten a lot of treats, i cut his evening meal down to 1/2 a cup.

Is it just too much peanut butter? too much sugar? or too much food in general?

I would say that that is too much peanut butter.. when I fill T-Bone's Kong, I mix some yoghurt, banana, and a little bit of peanut butter together and stuff it. Or try soaking some kibble, stuffing it in there and freezing it :) It would definitely be healthier :)

Way too much peanut butter. Try only sealing the kong with peanut butter and mixing other healthy alternatives inside the kong. :)

thanks guys. He got no peanut butter today, and eventually did eat his breakfast. He's feeling much better and ready for a romp at the park! I'll cut down on it.

what brand of peanut butter? Didn't they just have a recall on peter pan?

It is peter pan, but i've been using the same jar for about 4 months now with no problem. I gave him some this morning and he didn't have any problems. I think it was just that he had waaaaaaaay too much that day.

Regarding peanut butter.... People AND pets should eat, if not Organic/ Natural (which can be expensive) at the very least Natural PB, which is JUST ground up peanuts.


Typical grocery store "crap" has all the natural peanut oils taken out and toxic hydrogenated oils added, plus sugars and lotsa salt. We have all heard how UNHEALTHY trans fats, hydrogenated oils are, and in my opinion the FDA should make the addition of such oils in ANY creatures food illegal.

Please feed yourselves and pets NATURAL PEANUT BUTTER ( i think kraft makes one called "just peanuts". Also it's good to refridgerate when open...as there is some sort of mold that peanuts can get. Not sure on the dets, but it's NOT good.

I would not stuff the Kong full of peanut butter, but just spread a thin coating around inside the opening and a little ways in. Adams peanut butter, I beleive is unhydrogenated. You have to mix the oil around and refrigerate it. Or if you have a food processor, mix up your own fresh peanuts. It's really good that way.

Try to make your training treats as tiny as possible....the size of a pea. You can also vary your reward from treats for some things to a special toy that is only used for training...a favorite for some things.

For the mach speed eating, you can put a couple of tennis balls in his bowl or just feed him smaller amounts but more frequently. I wouldn't let him run for about an hour to an hour and a half after eating or an hour before eating.

I stopped using that junk peanut butter along time ago.. I always buy the unsalted, no sugar, organic...contains only organic peanuts...

I have never refrigerated it though, I have never heard of this mold, but will check up on it. ;)

I would throw that Peter Pan Away....even if it hasn't made you sick yet. :)
