How do I get up avatars?

Hey there I'm new and I was wondering how do I upload an avatar? I went to USER CP and clicked on "avatar" in the menu..and it wouldn't let me upload anything..it said "no current avatar selected" or something like that..and there were no other options..is it disabled?

My second question is..how do I put an image in my signature? I used the regular < IMG SRC =
tags and it didn't work..I also tried the [ IMG ] tags and that didn't work either..can someone help me out with these two questions please?

Hi Pittbullist,
Just click on 'user cp' and click on 'edit avatar' on the left side.
Then you should see a radio box for 'select custom avatar', check
it and follow the instructions for there.

Hit the 'Edit Signature' link and just click on the link icon and it will
hyperlink a link for you. Click on the image icon and it will link the image
for you.

Here is a site to quickly resize any images you have that are too big:

Hmm I don't see that anywhere..this is all it says:

There are no other options or links there...:( I'm dumb

Did you confirm your membership by email? You should have been send one when you registered. If you don't confirm it, your features are limited to keep abuse to a minimum.

I decided it would be a good idea to figure this out since there are so many questions about it. Look below the box you're seeing with the message you've described; there will be another section that gives you the option to choose a custom avatar. When you click on that line, a black dot will appear in that circle and the one in the "no avatar" circle above will disappear. You can then go to the bar that says "Browse." When you click on browse it will let you look in your computer's files for your graphic to upload. Just be sure you've got it sized small enough, as it won't resize it. I had to go back and resize mine several times before I got it right.

Chaz I'm not sure if I confirmed anything..how would I go about getting the email again so I can make sure I DO confirm it? As for any messages appearing beneath the one I'm already receiving..I'm not getting any of that you guys :(

Well, I checked out the whole system. Everything worked out using four temp users from scratch. If you did not receive a email please check our email or you will not be able to do a lot of things, like upload pics.

We allow alvatars up to 80 x 80 pixels.

On the top blue bar look for the User CP link (User Control Panel). Navigate from the left side once you get there. Make sure you are logged in.

Hi Sandy, you wasn't activated. That is done by confirming by email.
I went ahead and activated it so logoff and log back in and you will be able to change your avatar. :)

Strange...normally .jpg and .gif are widely accepted avatar file types. I'll check it out for myself.

I didn't say they didn't. I just said that I tried to upload an avvie and the format didn't work. I thought it was .gif

I don't mind helping anyone with avatars that they want fixed up/resized...I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 (comes with ImageReady for animated .gifs) and I'm pretty good with both of them.

I just opened your .gif in ImageReady. The problem is that it has 45 layers because of the image transition, so the file ends up being 92kb and the avatar size limit is 39kb. Whoever created it originally didn't do it quite right, but I'll fix it up in no time.

Are these colors acceptable? I got the file size just under avatar specs...if you don't like the colors, I'll have to reduce the avatar size to keep the file size under 39kb.

I don't use ImageShack at all...I do all of my own image editing and use my own web space for hotlinks. The reason the color quality is lower than the original is because in order to reduce the file size to under 39kb (within avatar specs), I had to either reduce the image size from 100x100 to something smaller or reduce the amount of colors. A .gif has 256 maximum colors...I dropped the colors to maintain the 100x100 image size, but reduce the overall file size to under 39kb.

is your dpi at 75? You shouldn't have to drop colours for something so small.

Her particular image's DPI is at 72, but there is no need to adjust the DPI when dealing with animated .gifs. I don't reduce colors unless there's nothing else I can do to bring the file size under the 39kb limit. The original file has 45 layers and animation frames which is WAY too many for this animated .gif. I reduce the number of layers/frames first, then work on the reduction type, loss, colors, etc.

I am wanting to change my avatar and everytime I try to upload it I get an Invalid URL message. It is stored in Photobucket (as was my last one) and I am using their URL.
