I have an 8 week old puppy that has had 2 shots, can I take him outside for a walk? I don't want to risk any diseases or worms or anything, but I don't want him stuck inside all day either.

Thanks.

do you know what shots they were?

No clue. The previous owner died and her daughter remembers the dog having gotten two rounds of shots, but didn't know what they were.

Nope, no public places until all of the shots are done.

There is no reason that you can't 'practice' in the backyard......put on the leash and walk on your own property. That will eliminate the "stuck inside" problem, and it will provide some early training :)

Full vaccine load or not, my pup has been out in public since the day I brought her home at 8 weeks. I would rather risk the health than risk her lacking socialization. It's a decision you have to make personally, but I (and my friends and trainers) have had great success with socializing before the full load of vaccinations is done.

You can take the dog out in public, but on the ground? No thanks. Ask someone who has supported a dog through parvo- the risk is not good enough for me.

my puppy is 10 weeks and has only had the first shots, i take him to work at a doggy day care, and in public, the doggy daycare is clean and all the dogs there must have proof of all vacs

At the doggy daycare, sure, but not in public and you'd be amazed at the number of people who do NOT vaccinate.

There is alot of socializing that can be done around home, in the car, and where other dogs do not frequent at 8 weeks old. I didn't get Charlie until he was 3 months old... he had never been out of the pen. He came along just fine! I would NEVER pick socializing in public areas over the health of my dog!

I would also be wary of doggie day care for such a young pup without a complete series of shots... Even dogs fully vaccinated can be carriers of certain things.. that I wouldn't want my pup exposed to.

Good Luck Everyone!

My OLD vet also told me (14 years ago) that my pup had parvo, he didn't he had rabies. I always like to reside on the side of caution. ;)
