Hey all! I just got my new baby, 10 week old Malamute/Husky X. She's adorable.

Right now I work from home on my computer so for the most part this is great and I can take her out to poo/pee and play with her for most of the day.

However I do need some time to work!

Theres no way I can let her roam around my computer area, theres dangerous cords all over the place.

Of course I can't let her roam the house.

She has her own crate so I've opted to place her in there with toys and treats a few hours a day. The crates in the room with the TV, not where I am. My computer room doesn't have much room but maybe this is the solution.

The problem is I feel really guilty. She howls like CRAZY when in the crate, most times after a few mins she settles down but I hate to hear her howling.

I tried putting her on a lead while I'm on the computer but this is no good either, she strains and tries to bite everything within reach, lol.

So is it OK to leave her in the crate for a couple hours at a time? I don't know how else I'll get work done if I don't.

Should I move the crate to my computer room? Is it ok for her to be alone for a bit?

Thanks.

I think it's good to be separated once and a while ....it might be good to try to gate off part of the computer room for some times while potty training .

My husband also works from from and his office got temporarily moved downstairs until Bella is completely housetrained. She does get crated, but it's for very short periods of time as she is often found wrestling with Banzai or sunbathing with Buddy on the deck outside. She has full range of the entire downstairs area. She handles her crate like a champ, though. Good luck.

Oh and I forgot to mention that separation is fine.. you don't want to create separation anxiety in her..she knows you're there, she doesn't need to "see" you 24/7.

I agree, being alone for some periods of time is good. I would also set up an small exercise pen in the computer room, so the pup can be with you. Then for naptime, you can put her in the crate, or just when you want to practice separation.

It also sounds like she has lots of energy, so be sure to play with her and give her the exercise she needs so she uses those other times to sleep. Don't forget to puppyproof your house so she can be successful in her outings. Congrats on your new puppy!
