Our 17 week old Golden has started digging holes all over the place in the yard.
Is there any way to stop this?

does he have stuff to do out there? Either get him some fun distracting toys for outside or (in my opinion a better idea) build him his own sand box! It does not have to be huge but a descent size so he does not fling out TOO much sand. Every time he starts digging redirect him to the sand box and praise when you get him to dig(to get my dog to dig I would start digging next to him, flinging up sand, then he would start) and give him treats whenever you see him dig there on his own. He needs constant supervision in the yard so he can never get a really good dig in, because that in itself is very rewarding. Hope that helps some, Good Luck!

We bought extra bags of top soil to fill the holes. It's impossible to get all 4 of mine to stop digging. One starts and the other join in.

When you clean up the yard, put the poop you've just picked up into the holes. Most dogs despise getting poop on their paws and will avoid it afterwards. Then provide a place for him to dig like the sandbox mentioned above.

Just say "no" to him when he's digging holes. Never leave your dog alone in the yard. Go out in the yard with him because if he's there alone, he will develope a habit of digging holes, scratching, and many other things.

I have this same problem, been working on in unsuccessfully for months. I know dogs usually dig when they are bored, so if like the last few days, I can't walk her (been sick) she digs more. But even if I keep her really busy, she digs. I am running out of ideas. We are in the process of selling our home, and I hate having potential buyers see all the holes!!

Is your dog an outdoor dog?

No, not really. Though we are active outdoors people and she goes out when we do, she spends some time out alone, but not that much.

I swear by the bury the poop. My dogs were digging new holes and have for some reason quit. This took about 2-3 months. I hardly had any poop to throw a way since I kept burying it in the holes.
