I just found that there was a litte hairless area on the back of my dog. The area is circular with 1.5cm diameter. Under close inspection, I saw some very short and very little hair with darker color than the other growing on that arean. I am not sure whether it is a kind of skin problem or he is changing new coat (he is 5 month old toy poodle). But why the cost change only appears in one area!?

If it is an early skin disease, how I can help the situation!?

Does your dog itch a lot?? If so, it could be Sarcoptic Mange which is actually not that uncommon in dogs that are younger. Actually all dogs and humans have the parasite on them that causes mange, but it doesn't have an effect on most dogs and humans because they have strong enough immune systems to not have any effects (it is scabies in humans when they are effected). Younger dogs have weaker immune systems, so they have problems sometimes. I would take him into the vet and they may want to do a skin scrape to see if it is mange. The skin scrape may show up negative even if he has mange because that skin area may not have the parasite at the time of the scrap, or the female may have just laid eggs deep in the skin and therefore, they are not showing up. Mange is an easy problem to fix if caught right away, but can be very dangerous if it goes untreated.

I'm not quite sure, but my beagle started losing hair around the tip of her nose a couple of years ago and although her hair IS still short around the tip of her nose but she's completely fin and never scratches it. Not sure if it's the same with the back, but I hope this helps.

Could it be ringworm? http://lbah.com/ringworm.htm
