I was wondering if I should take my pup to be groomed or for a trim every so often? It just seems that this is what most folks do and because Minnie has quite a long coat (probably 5" or so) I just wondered if you thought that it was necessary? She is always a scruffy looking mutt but thats just the way she is LOL. I do brush her every day, towel her dry when she comes in after a walk/paddle in the park and I bath/shower her maybe every 4-6weeks.

What mix is she? If she has poodle in her, she will have to be cut down a little bit every so often. Most other coats can do with just occasional trimming as long as you keep up with brushing!

If she is a breed that has "hair" instead of "fur" you should get her trimmed every so often so she doesn't end up being one big cousin It :)

Its not a bad idea at all, at lest she'll come back clean and smelling lovely as well!

Thanks for the replies ^__^ Minnie is a real mutt LOL. Springer spaniel/bearded collie/terrier we think, although old English sheep dog and wire haired pointing griffon has been suggested also here on chaz, to add to the mix. I am not sure what you meant by hair? as apposed to fur. I would call it fur I think but yes you are probably right...It cant help to give the grooming thing a go once in a while.http://images.artwanted.com/artists/thumb/21586.jpghttp://http://www.chazhound.com/pictures/showphoto.php?photo=9655&cat=2 (http://www.chazhound.com/pictures/showphoto.php?photo=9655&cat=2) http://www.chazhound.com/pictures/data//500/min_4_forum.JPG

Fur....Is the dogs hair that grows only to a certain point. Like the Border collie has fur.

Hair... Is like you or my hair that KEEPS growing and has to be trimmed Like a poodle has hair that keeps growing.

Good job Lizmo.

Ex.

Shelties, Pointers, Labs, Huskies - all have "fur"

Shih Tzu, Poodles, Maltese, - all have "hair"

(sorry.. this is SummerRiot.. I forgot Tim was in his account lol Ooops)

Even if your dog doesn't need a huge amount of grooming, it's still a good idea to take her in on a regular basis so she is accustomed to it and doesn't end up being one of those "dreaded dogs" that need to be muzzled because they bite the groomers.

Hmmm now I get it! Well I presume that bearded collies, springers and terriers all have fur? On the other hand Minnies coat is still getting longer and longer! Only very slowly but maybe you can spot the difference between her tiny puppy and big puppy pics LOL. I think I will take her to be groomed at some point soon, just for the experience...I would very much doubt that she would bite the groomer though!!! unless they actually hert her or something. She loves people ^__^

She is gorgeous. As a puppy she looked like a Springer Spaniel, now she sure looks like a Bearded Collie! You may want to have her trimmed just to keep her looking pretty and less tangles. She really is a cutie!:)

Gee Little Liz, she's REALLY cute!

I would definitely get her groomed now and then, especially if you can't keep up with mats. Besides, a nice trim will show up her total cuteness.
