Well I was letting the girls out to go potty and the woman who lives next door was coming outside with her dog. These people had warned us when they first moved in their dog is vicious and would attack and try to kill our dogs and we thought they had a pitbull (because we saw a pitbull looking dog running loose that same day we've never seen before) but it turns out they have a mini schnauzer (sp?). Anyway I brought the girls inside and she came out with her dog. I asked her if she was a rescue (because they don't know why she hates all other animals) and she said no.

She then goes on to say she owned both her mother and father (so she bred them). They were both purebreeds so that obviously makes them worthy to breed. Anyway, this dog that she now owns was the only living puppy out of a litter of 7 and the mother needed to have a c-section in order to save that puppy. Well the mother than refused to nurse, or even lay with, that puppy ever and this woman had to raise the puppy and bottle feed her. The puppy was a miracle, which is why her name is Mira.

The woman then told me this dog is very aggressive to EVERY animal and thinks it's a rottweiler. I guess this dog latched onto her uncle's lab's throat and would not let go and caused some injury to this dog. So this is scary thinking that dog is living next door but the woman says that is why she always carries her outside and to the backyard and doesn't put her down until the gate is locked. So she is aware of the problem and she takes measures to ensure her dog does not get the chance to attack anything which is a responsible thing to do. I just thought the story of what happened during a "routine" breeding was pretty scary. Some people just think "oh that stuff can never happen to me" and in this case it happened to one of those people who thought that. Not only did she have to pay for the c-section and lost 6 puppies but she also had to bottle feed and raise this puppy from birth because the mother did not care for it.

Sometimes people have to learn their lesson the hard way. How sad.

That is sad I hope they learned a lesson from it
People think just because they have two purebreeds they should breed them and if you notice most who have never breed anything think they know more than someone who has been doing it for years and years .

*shakes head*:(

Its a very sad story. But if nothing else, atleast she takes the measures to make sure the dog doesnt get out or the chance to hurt anyone.

It is very sad but it makes me even more sad she compared her agressive dog to a rotti. Not all rottis are agressive. I've actually only ever met kind ones.

=( I hope that lady learned her lesson... even though she had to put her dogs through all of that pain & suffering for it.

I'm also pretty positive there's some kind of correlation between the Mini Schnauzer's extreme animal aggression and her being raised solely by humans. Probably a huge lack of socialization from the start.

I am a little confused??? Did the lady breed two related dogs together or did she just not do her research on the history of the parents and any health problems??? How do we know she didn't do a lot of research and it was just a freak accident that happened? It sounds to me that the mother knew that something was going to be wrong with the puppy and that is why she rejected it....maybe their is something metally wrong with this dog.

There is always a very good reason when a bitch refuses a single puppy or two...

My first breeding resulted in a C Section cost $600 we got 5 pups and still were in the red because we spent tons more proving the dogs vs what we charged.

Regards to the temperament I did bottle feed a runt that was NOT rejected just too small to get milk with siblings double the size.

Precious is not too human friendly due to the spolling she got but she lives in a pack of other dogs. She was spayed due to her size.

Breeding is not a money maker it is a money drainer...

I don't know if they were related she just said she owned her dog's mother and father. I seriously doubt she did any type of research before breeding and no health testing either. They are not that type of people.

These are the type of people that don't see breeding as money draining they thought they'd be able to make tons of money off the puppies.

When are people going to ever understand animals never make you money? They may make you some if you are into competing but all that day to day care adds up.

I also really didn't like her rottweiler comparison.

That really bothered me. It also bothers me when I talk about my dogs and people ask what breed they are. I reply with border collies and all they have to say is "Good luck" and they roll their eyes. I understand they are too much dog for most people but I don't make snarky comments about their breed choice.

Yes such a sad story;;;; I know when we decided to get a dog, (Sasha) We checked the breeder out left.....right and center......!!!!!

I felt that it was in our best interest to secure the right dog for our family..... money was and is never the issue!!! I personal felt that this was a lifetime family decision. Nothing else!!!

We have had many ask us if we are going too breed Sasha???? Are we NO! It's not my place to attempt that and that is not the reason for owning a dog! For us any how!

During our search; I heard all kinds of horrendous stuff, dogs being breed at 10 months old just scared me! The same dog would have been bred right back as soon as her next season....... CRAZY!

I took a lot of time locating the right vet too. The one we chose takes time with us, he does not just take our money.... but explains everything. It is a shame that this pups went through this. I know nothing but this I do know, breeding is for the pro's not me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
