Hey everyone. I would like to get a Perro de Presa Canario. I don't want one right now because I have too many other projects on the go right now and do not have time to train one. I have thought about getting one for years now and even though, some think that I should not get one, I have been in love with the breed forever. I am wanting to find a GOOD Perro breeder. I cannot find any I like. So if you know of a good one please let me know. Thanks.

Make sure what ever breeder you look at Xrays the dogs the breed like most Molosser have HD.
I have a friend who xrays works and shows her dogs.
Plus takes back what ever dogs that need rehoming.
Here is a pic of me helping her move 2 of her dogs from NY back home to Ohio to her.
Great choice if you did your research !http://www.planetmolosser.com/gallery/data/537/Picture_094.jpg

My friend has two Presas and they're amazing dogs! Her male is on the small side for a male Presa at about 90-95 pounds. He was a heavily abused rescue case that she completely turned around. He's now totally social, LOVES his momma, and is in retirement now after a long and successful career in Personal Protection. Her female has turned into a nice dog, but came from a very bad breeder in the south and was extremely fearful. But she's worked very hard with her to turn her into a fantastic house dog.
I love the breed, but then again I think I just love all big dogs :)

Thanks. That brindle in the picture is beautiful. I have always loved Presas so much. I would like to get one now, but I understand that they take a lot of training and I don't have the time to put into one right now. At least if I can find a good breeder now then they can get to know me and I can get to know them. I like having a good relationship with my breeders. It means a lot to me.
I talked to one breeder but he could not show me any evidence that he was screening for HD so I am no longer in contact with them anymore.
Thanks again.

I dont know of my friend is breeding any more she has twin boys that take up allot of time.
Her kennel name is Darkforce
If you are close to NY pls come to our UKC Molosser show the Presa will be one of the breeds we are inviting each and every year.
PS I agree on HD many of the rare breed breeders dont bother .
My breeder of my 1st dog told me " they are naturally healthy they dont have HD because they are not inbred" that was 10 yrs ago since then I have learned different and xray all my dogs..

I would imagine finding a good Presa breeder is as tough as finding a good APBT breeder, since both breeds tend to attract yahoos that want them for the wrong reasons. I wish you luck in your search, though. If I can find a good APBT breeder, I'd be willing to bet you can find a good Presa breeder with enough effort. :)

I agree that is why Tracey STOPPED breeding for 2 years after the Whipple thing . She said QUOTE " i have a hard enough time telling the normal idiots that call - how am i going to be able to tell who wants one now because of what happened"

Yeah, I can agree with everything that has been said. Unfortunately I am nowhere close to NY, I live in Saskatchewan. I really hope I can find a good breeder. It will be hard I am sure, but its worth it.

You can buy a plane ticket when the time comes. ;) I try not to let distance be any barrier when it comes to finding a good dog. Basically because you're one of the lucky few if you're close to a reputable breeder. I remember that first 16-hour (one way) road trip to meet Loki's breeder. Just meet. Then we did it again a few months later to actually get her. Worth every gruelling mile. :D

Yeah, I completely agree with you. I do not have a problem travelling a long distance to get from a really good breeder. It would be worth every cent!
