I think that was great! I wish more reporters started thinking and talking that way.

Thanks for showing this to me... yesterday I was talking about this topic with my parents. My dad said, "90% of pit bulls are horrible... it's not the owner, the breed is violent". GRRRRR. I got mad.

Well, I asked my dad politely if he would watch the video. His response was, "I'm sick of hearing about pit bulls. They are horrible dogs. I would never own one. I've never seen one that was near reasonable, they're mean, and just a horrible breed of dog."
Gosh, he ALWAYS thinks he knows everything. He is the most closed-minded person I've ever met in my life.

ugh, manda, that would make me sooo mad.
Honestly, I'd bring a pit into the house just to show him, haha.
But that's the type of person I am.

I know!! The next person I know who gets a pit bull, I'm stealing it for a day so my dad can meet the pooch! :)

Mandy, I'm sorry about your dad. :( Mine is the same way. What I've done is when I start chatting with him about dogs, when he starts in on stuff like that I smile and politely disagree and then offer a diplomatic excuse and end the conversation. But I'm not giving up, I will keep doing this until he gets it. But he probably never will, he's in his mid-fifties and very set in his ways. However, I've won him over on the Doberman! :D He was stroking Jilly this morning and cooing at her! Victory! So, you see, it is possible to win this argument.. he's the same way about Pits as he was about Dobes six months ago.
Just try not to get into arguments with him about it, keep your cool, smile and politely disagree. If at all possible, start gushing about the sweetest little APBT you met today and how your face is just coated in slobber. Most importantly, don't give up... it's frustrating as hell, but it's not fair to Pits that people are afraid of them/hate them for no reason. Our dads are missing out.
I've won my mom over on most of the "eeeek it's scary breeds," all I'm working on now are Rotties, GSDs, and Chows. Although, she's not exactly wary of GSDs, one bit her brother so she doesn't like them.
PS. the video wont load for me, but I just installed flash player... is that normal?

My dad is the exact same way with pit bulls. He says well if thy are just as friendly as any other dog then why are they responsible for all the attacks, when i try to explain to him the reason (that people who think like him and actually want a vicious dog decide on pit bulls because they look mean and have a reputation) he always cuts me off. He says if he ever saw a stray one coming near him he would kill it and tells me never to pet one, even when it is with it's owner. (I pet the owners pittie every day when she takes her on a walk, she is very friendly and even likes my dog.) My dad also has a hatred for weimeraners and says they are all vicious too  there's no talking him out of that one. I wish someday i can get a Pit Bull, i probably won't though because i would like multiple dogs, but if i decide to just get one maybe I'll get a pittie (even though dad says he will never come to see me if i do) and make the dog the best trained dog he's ever met.
