A $5,000 reward is being offered in the search for a suspect Tuesday in a sexual assault of a 10-month-old pit-bull puppy in New Jersey.

Police discovered the dog, apparently sodomized by a local resident, Tuesday and notified the Associated Humane Societies of Newark.

The animal was hospitalized for internal bleeding after the attack, the AHS told FOXNews.com.

"The dog was so traumatized, she didn’t even want to get up," said Rosanne Trezza, executive director of the AHS. "She wouldn’t walk, she just laid down."

AHS has posted a reward fund of $2,500 and the N.J. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has met the $2,500, totaling $5,000 for the arrest and bestiality conviction of the perpetrator.

According to Trezza, two women witnessed a man having intercourse with the dog but refused to get involved.

"I'd like to get the dog a home, it’s a stray, and no one has come forward," Trezza said. "I wouldn’t want it to go back to that area. The dog needs a chance to be put on a different road in life."

The AHS welcomes donations toward the dog's medical care, and anyone with information about the crime should call Trezza at 973-824-7080.

Sickly enough, this is the third time I've heard of this happeneing in the past 6 months or so, and all of the dogs were Pit Bulls. Some people are just disgusting.

i also heard of one involving a cat who had to be put to sleep thanks to the damage the man had caused.

i HAVE been in situations along this line. when i was 8 i was out with a frined i whent into the shop to get something and came out intime to see a man drag my frined into the bushes.
i ran back into the shop and told the keeper to call the police then ran back outside.
i didnt care that the man was bigger than me, i followed and as soon as i got his attention i gave him a hard kick in the crotch. being he was fully erect at the time the kick actually "Broke" his penis. he had to be taken away on a hopsital stretcher!

i would risk the same for a dog too, because as i already said, most animal abusers turn into people abusers, fine you can yoursef justify "refusing to get involved" when its a stray mutt...but what if he goes uncaught because of those people and next offence is a child?!

Im a big girl and dont fear all that much (i played rugby for years lol) but i would hope had it been my dog someone would have tried to at least distract the guy...and if it had been me as a kid, or my own kid, id hope someone WOULD get involved, risk of a punch in the face or not.

I'm afraid my opinion differs upon that particular subject.

Who cares if one of them is hairless and walks upright while the other has a tail and slobbery kisses? In that situation, it wouldn't matter if the victim was a rat. If I were being raped and couldn't do anything about it, I would want someone to help. If I were a child and I was being raped, I would still want help. Most of all, if I were a helpless puppy in that situation I would want help.

I can understand that maybe everyone would not want to jump in and save someone from being raped because they feared for themselves--that is certainly a justified fear--but discriminating over whether it's a human or a dog? I thought we had already admitted that dogs feel as much (and often more!) than we feel, whether it's emotional or physical.

The 2 witnesses could have done a lot to either catch this guy or stop him! For crying out loud there are 2 of you! He can't very well rape 2 people at a time! Minimum I would have called the cops and got an accurate description of the guy so they could catch them. What if this is just the start of something bigger??? You could have stopped the guy and had him convicted. Get his DNA and prints on file for future use. So much that could have been done!
