Hello everyone! I wanted to know if anyone knows of a pedigree research program that's available. Basiclly what I would like to do is start to keep track of the dogs that are pictured and listed in the WCA magazine. So the program would need to figure out where the dogs should be placed on the pedigree. From one listing in the magazine I'd get a sire and **** with the one offspring. So as it comes along it would need to figure out which dogs came from which families. Is there anything out there that will do that? I know that there are programs that you can keep track of your own dogs pedigrees but I would like to use this as a tool to ditermine what lines I would like my 1st show dog from.

Any suggestions?? OR what program do you use??

Maybe through AKC ?? I kept pedigrees throughout the years , so on some Goldens I could go back maybe 64 generations .

Do you use a software to keep track of them?? If so what do you use?

Maybe through AKC

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought about looking there but I didn't know if they would have such a thing. I know I can get MY pedigrees for my dogs from the akc but had no idea that they would have a research program. This is what I found:

http://www.akc.org/reg/pedigree_overview.cfm

You can get a pedigree for any registered ACK dog. However they want $10 for each pedigree... UGH that could get expensive!

No , I had blank pedigrees and could update by hand . My 1st was in 1949 which went back 5 generations ....I may not have had actual dog's names , but all the kennel names . Example my 1st Golden had Rockhaven Kennel 5th generation and I could trace Bubba back to Rockhaven .

Would you find it benificial if there was a program that if you entered a dog's information that it would put the lineage in order???

For instance:

If you had Dog A's parents, B & C. Then you had Dog D's parents, B & E, if that program would put the pedigree together in the proper order stating that Dog A is related to Dog D through parent B? This way you could do your own research on pedegrees and bloodlines and not have to pay anyone to do it. Sure it'd be a lot of work on your end but in the long run, idealy, you could have the comlete pedegree for your potential, or current, dog. Basiclly it would be like if we were to figure out our family tree, but a bit more complex because there are a lot more potential offspring in dogs than humans. ;) :D

Miakoda - I think that only does one dog's lineage if you have it so you can post it on your website. Unless I'm looking at it wrong. What I want is more of a research program more like a family tree program.

Anyone know of any names?? My M-I-L suggested www.infodog.com. However they don't advertise they do pedigrees but she uses it and for $10/mo she can do her pedigrees online but she puts in all the information. I guess I'd just rather spend the money once to get the program I want and then store the info on my PC.

I'm sure in this day and age it's a lot easier than what I had to do .....this was even before copiers , so I wrote out a full pedigree for each new pup ........

I've found a few websites to check out when I get home. For those of you interested here they are:

http://www.geocities.com/willowind_dals/pedigree.html

http://www.breedmate.com/

http://www.worldpedigrees.com/index.htm
I kinda like this one. It gives you the option to look up pedigrees of dogs. Someone already started the reasearch for a specified breed, so I can use it to fill in the blanks. AND it's free!

I'll keep looking for more to try out too. Has anyone tried any of these?

After one long night of searching I'm going to try Lineage Manager For Dogs. The free 30 day trial can be found at

http://www.nwpsw.com/lmdmain.html

So far so good. It's a lot of entry but hopefully it will all pay off in the end. The software is very user friendly, basic nothing flashy. The full version is $50 which is not bad considering I was finding them as expensive as $120! I'm going to keep my eye out for others though.

I found a list of software to try here:

http://www.yorkshire-terrier.com/lacy/shopping.html

After all this research I would still like to know if anyone else uses any software like this and/or if they have any suggestions.

Thanks! I'll check it out. I'm really liking the look and functionality of Pedigree Explorer @ www.breedmate.com, but it's $110. Will have to get the hubbies approval on that one.

In the mean time I did find a online pedigree for weimaraners @ believe it or not... www.weimaranerpedigree.com. I applied for a login, just waiting for approval. It's a site that people can go post the pedigrees of their dogs and it keeps an online listing. I can't wait to check it out!

thought you might like it, I spent hours following both Gracie and Ollie back to the beginning, both of Ollies and Gracies grandparent were in there but not their parent. http://www.k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=191416

Oh la la! Nice Goldens!

I got a chance to look up a few pedigrees on my weimaraner site and I'm impressed and disturbed at the same time. I'm seeing a lot of inbreeding in the lins of some of those well known dogs.... Gotta get away from that, it's not always a good thing.
