Hey everyone!
My husband and I are looking (and just looking, at this point) into getting another lab. Does anyone know of some responsible breeders (preferably in the Mississippi/Alabama/Tennessee/Louisiana area)? We're really interested in yellow labs, and preferably ones that look like Jester. Thanks so much for the info!

(disclaimer: looks are nowhere NEAR the most important thing in selecting a dog, but we all still have our preferences)
In what way do you want the puppy to look like Jester (head, expression, body type, etc), and can you post a picture of Jester to illustrate what you want the puppy to look like?

AgilityRetrievers - We love the shape of his head and how sleek he is...here are a few pics:

Tucker and Jess - Believe me, I know about Petfinder. That's where we got Jester. And I have been checking it regularly, and will continue to check it up until we decide to get a new dog. Like I said, right now we're just looking - so there's no harm in looking at breeders as well. Nothing is going to happen right away, so as much as I'd like to take all those dogs in, there is no way. I see no harm in going to a breeder if the breeder is responsible. Thanks for the input, though.

Your best bet is probably to go with Petfinder then. You'll find some field-type Lab breeders with dogs that have the structure you're looking for (he looks a lot like my Boo who is from hunting lines), but you'll sometimes have a hard time convincing one of them to sell to a pet home, some of them don't do health testing, and you also might find the temperament a bit too much to deal with.

There are so many labs in need of homes. At our SPCA, we always have a litter of lab puppies for adoption... and many times these young puppies are even purebred.

Jester is very cute. :)
He does look more like a field lab than a show/bench variety. When searching for a breeder, you may want to look more along field/hunting lines if you like that look. Just be prepared for a lab with E-N-E-R-G-Y if you go that route. ;)
On another note, I agree with the others that there are a lot of labs in need of homes. But, I also see absolutley no problem at all with you going through a responsible breeder and getting a puppy this time around. It's your decision and there should be no guilt associated with choosing a breeder over petfinder.
Here are a few that I looked up really quick. I didn't have a chance to look their sites over in detail.

Agree, the "look" you are looking for is more of a field bred look. You can find the same "look" on petfinder relatively easily.
Good Luck with your search!

Im not a breeder but I have a yellow lab mix available as a rescue. We took him in a few months ago and got him neutered and UTD on shots. He is probably between 1 and 1.5 years. I live in east TX, very close to Shreveport, LA

^What a cutie!
If you go with rescue, then you will (asssuming you get an adult) know what the dog will look like.
