Oh that poor dog. He could hardly walk.... :( He looked like he had a really bad cataract in his left eye too.
If you had trouble playing the video... there is a little link at the top of the screen that you can click if you're having trouble with playback.. maybe it will help.

It became obese because arthritis prevented him from getting enough exercise? Omgosh, with that weight walking must be sheer agony for him!
I hope a close eye is kept on this dog because it doesn't sound like the brothers quite "get it". But I'll keep my opinions to myself about that because it would be conjecture.
That dog looks like some of the ones that come into work...we call them "tick" or "coffeetable" dogs.

Poor dog, the brothers said "the dog is happy"
WOW, I really don't think they think they've done anything wrong. Maybe some education is in order instead of fines??

We have a client who also was charged with animal cruelty for allowing her cat to become morbidly obese..........36 lbs! And this cat should've weighed between 8-9lbs with 10lbs being tops. If I remember correctly she was fined a little over $500 & had the cat taken away.

I can't believe people can be so stupid. It is one thing to not feed the best food to your pets or not take your healthy seeming pet to the vet every single year. But to feed a dog so much and let his weight get so bad? That is just sick. Don't they have any idea of the health problems a dog of that weight can have? It always bugged me when this one girl I worked with at the shelter would go on about how much she loved fat cats and fed her cat a ton of crappy food so he will get fat. I always asked what she was planning to do when her cat got diabetes and she then had to give insulin shots everyday or whatever and spend a lot of money at the vets for tests and medications and possibly artiritis meds and to pay for problems in the cats legs because they were so heavy. Same goes for this poor dog. I can't believe they are giving the dog back to them. I can't believe people are so unaware and unconcerned about the health and well being of their pets.

Some people smother their dogs with kindness and call it love. My mom took a cute little 3 lb Yorkie I gave to her and turned her into a 7 lb tub. But she loved her dearly. Gidget got her own plate at every meal and it didn't matter what I told her about her weight. She just couldn't understand that it wasn't good for her to be that overweight. If Gidget didn't eat she worried constantly that something was wrong with her. But I would never have taken her away from her. They loved each other so much. Gidget wasn't as overweight as this dog but maybe it is a similar situation.

A lot of it is education.
You all have said that "they didnt think they did anything wrong", well then we should educate them and perhaps they will do better by their next dog.
At least the dog wasnt skin & bones like I see ALL of the time at my local shelter. They have had to euthanize dogs because they were so skinny, it hurt them to eat.
I would give these guys a break. They didnt know what they were doing is wrong, and seeing the dog everyday they probably didnt notice how big he got.
I say educate them. I dont think for one second these people belong in jail and honestly, if they would promise to provide daily walks and a special diet I would suggest they get their dog back (of course with frequent visits at first from the vet)

This really sickens me!
This is one thing that I get so peeved about....
I really cannot understand how anybody can let a dog get like that, unless they were blind....no not even then, even a blind person could feel all that fat.
But as others have said they should be educated.... Maybe some classes designed especially for them by an animal nutritionist, Of course they should also foot the bill...
One of my family members has an obese dog, the dog eats crappy dog food and all kinds of leftovers from each meal.. I can't hardly stand to walk into their house....The dog is wider than Charlie and about 1/4 of his height.

How cruel. There is no way I believe someone is uneducated enough to not know this is wrong.

What's worse is people can do this to their kids and get away with it...........at least someone somewhere is looking out for that dog!
