It's unfortunate the poor bear had to die such a painful death but in a life or death situation it's not like you have much choice.

I like the ending about him & his son.

Pit bulls are extremly loyal dogs, which is IMHO something that the bad owners take advantage of....

Sad about the bear. Too bad he couldnt scare it off...

PS-There are TONS of good stories about pit bulls saving their people's lives.

This is my favorite though:

Forget the whole "fighting like cats and dogs" thing; a duo in Knoxville is proving that the two animals can live lovingly together.Advertisement

Thor, a big pit-bull-looking dog, and Modhi, a little yellow cat, have become the best of friends.

It seems that Modhi helps Thor with separation anxiety.

"He just loves his kitty," says owner Jay Pfaffman.

This, my friends, is the real truth about cats and dogs.

Great story, its funny how the media often call a dog a "Pit Bull" when they do something bad and then call them something else when they do something good....like "American Staffordshire Terrier".

oh Am staffer I was thinking that the whole time I was reading the story!! They could have at least said "American Staffordshire, a pitt bull type" like they usually do!!! (bad for business, hehe)

I agree that this story should be spread, but bad news always travels and good news stays local no matter what the headline!! :(

I wonder how my dogs would react to something like that. I think Athena by stand her ground and growl until the last minute and then run :p

Sal would run up to the bear assuming it is play time and then run like crazy once the bear growled.........

You never know.... Sal did stand by my side one time when I confront some thugs fighting in my alley. I however don't think he looked at the guys as a threat, as he rarely takes anything seriously. They however did look at Sal as a major threat :lol-sign:

Hi fellow responsible dog owners,

I was tracking the story of the dog beheading in Mass. and came across this site.
Honoured to find that you have Sam's and my story posted.
Sammy made it into the January issue of Dogs in Canada.
I was tickled that they used one of my photos in the article...

If you'd like to read a bit more about the encounter, I posted the story on a board that I frequent...
