WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal regulators have approved a new weight-loss drug aimed not at man, but at man's best friend.
The Food and Drug Administration gave its OK today to the Pfizer drug Slentrol, designed to help manage the weight of obese dogs.

Pfizer plans to market the liquid formula to owners of the estimated five percent of U.S. dogs believed to be at least 20 percent over their ideal weight.

The FDA says the drug's method for producing weight loss "is not completely understood." But the agency finds the formula does seem to help chowhounds absorb less fat.

The news sent shares of Pfizer up one cent on the New York Stock Exchange.

i literally just got nauseous reading that...that is sick and wrong.

Maybe owners could get off their lazy butts and actually exercise not only their dogs, but themselves too.

Or maybe their owners could try learning about proper nutrition.

Anything to make a buck...absolutely disgusting.

They have had a great weight loss drug for years. It's called smaller portions and exercise and works every time...;)

Judging by some of the hadlers in some of the dog shows I have seen on TV, I think they exercise their dogs from a golf cart.....

Amazing. The more amazing part will be the people who buy it. My sister has a real overweight beagle, I keep telling her I'm going to bring her home and put her thru K9 boot camp. All she needs is portion regulation and exercise. The dog hardly eats. The problem? She's got 6 kids and the dog lives off of handouts from them. Hard to control the weight when the dog is crumb snatching all day.

LOL, ive noticed that too

i WISH i could have a dog at school...the amount that i walk oakley at home at least half makes up for the amount of cookies i ate over xmas!

Its just so relaxing to go out and walk...i never take an ipod...its just time to think.

I just feel kinda stupid aimlessly walking around campus, although i think im gonna start doing it more often since the gym is so **** busy
