Could be !!! I left there over 50 years ago . I really didn't know too many French people . Though one of my best friends , Mugette Villaneuve lived in Black Lake . I lived on Coleraine Ave.

My aunt spoke english, Her Last name was Mathers, regarding Coleraine ave, I don't know, maybe they change the name of the street, Black Lake don't exist anymore it became Thetford Mines. A lot of things have change & some did not change at all. My sister reside in Thetford, she bred Cinese Crested dogs ( hairless & puffy ) they are very funny dogs. I will ask about Mrs. Villeneuve to my dad, maybe He know her.
You have to let me know about you, look like you own Golden Retreiver
It been a nice surprise to chat with a Thetfordoise

The whole town knew Point ! ... my maiden name was Jenkins .... my Dad was General Manager of the Asbestos Corporation . The Grey Matter just kicked in .... it was Shirley Mathers.

What was your grand-dad's name ?? Yes, it's so sad how the mines have suffered !!! I still have some wonderful veins of abestos from the Beaver Mines . My school and church were " eaten up " by the growth of the pit .

My last high jacking of your post !!! We used to drive through St. Ferdinand to our favorite swimming holes ... either St. John de Brebeuf or Reed's Mills ... and the Mental Institution we drove by there always haunted me . Even more so today as my wonderful grandson has Down Syndrome ( Trisomy 21 ) and all I can think of is how many back in the 1940s were put into institutions . Is it still there ?? The jail bars and screams really bothered me .

Well small world in did, Grace Mathers was my aunt, sadly she died 15 years ago, she was married with my oncle Denis and lived in Quartier Mitchel, my oncle was the driver of the president of one of the mines, can't remember.By the way the mental hospital in St-Ferdinand is close ( 4 years ), in the last 10 years the quality of life of the residents was way better then before. Now it's standing with nothing in it, to much bad memories.
