Search Tips?

I can't figure out how to search multiple terms using the search function. None of the normal methods I know work. Earlier I tried to search for the shelf life of dog food so I tried searching "shelf life", shelf AND life, and +shelf +life. All of these just seem to default to shelf OR life.

Am I overlooking something obvious here?
