Can I clip Maverick's coat somehow that doesn't make him look naked? It's getting really hot poor boy. He's just sleeps in the shade all day. I wish I could take him to the river today but I have too much to do. :(

I have good clippers. They are for my horse so I'm sure they'd work for him. I don't want to get rid a lot of his hair though.

When I worked on a llama farm the llamas got their bellies shaved in the summer - partly so the wool could be used but partly so they could be cool. Llamas are very hard to groom!

Hey Saje
You could use a #4 blade on him. That won't take a lot of fur off, but enough. He will definetely be cooler though. Hope this works.

Thanks. Should I shave most of him or only certain parts?

A lot of people shave the entire body and leave a little fur on the feet and ears. Then you just shave up about an inch on the tail and brush it out. That should look good on Mav.

lol thanks. I'll look for a #4. I'm going to get a kiddy pool too. That should help. It's HOT here the last few days.

Is that a full clip except legs, and half a face, in horsey terms? Lol!

I will if I can find the blade. I had a quick look today but didn't see anything. Might be cheaper to by cheap clippers at wal-mart. Blades can get super expensive and so can sharpening!

No no. Do not buy cheap clippers. They will not work well at all.

I bought a cheap clipper set and they pulled on the dogs coat, which hurts the dog.

Second they overheat, and third they are flimsy.

Believe me invest the $120 for an Oster clipper and buy a nice sharp blade.

Or go to a groomer it will be cheaper and you can see if your dog likes a clipped coat.

I already have Oster's. Didn't pay $120 though! I think more like $60 Cdn. But it was horse country and everything horsey was cheaper.

I'll keep looking for some blades. I don't want to go to a groomer. That would cost a lot and I don't think it would be a good experience for Mav.
