question about housetraining...

Well, if I get a large dog, and it is a rescue, how would I housetrain that dog? I have been so tempted to get a rescue, I don't even know if I want a purebred, I just want to save a life, a life from being destroyed. Kill shelter or not, it is still saving a dog's life. :) From depression, and being destroyed. So, any tips? Say if I got a large dog, and wanted it in the house, what would I do? Very often, you will get a dog that is already house trained :) If not, you train very much as you would a puppy, but it's usually quicker.
