Tara the Labrador cross liked nothing better than eating up the biscuit crumbs dropped by her owner's children - until the day disaster struck.

The mischievous pooch sniffed out the remains of some shortbread which had fallen on to a paper shredder in her owner's Craigentinny home. But as she stuck her tongue to retrieve the tasty tit bit she activated the machine, trapping her tongue which left her howling in agony.
The injured dog had to undergo two operations on her mouth, and had to have one-third of her badly-damaged tongue amputated.
Wow. That poor dog.. definitely didn't get what she was expecting. Pet owners really have to be watchful and try to treat their pets like children, because dogs are definitely just as mischevious as any toddler. At least Tara got through the surgeries alright and is now recooperating.
