Ok so I'm guessing, from what my vet is telling me, Holly's adult coat is starting to grow in. Well she is looking pretty...unkept right now. Is there anything I can do to get her coat to look better? I brush her everyday and she always looks like she just rolled out of bed or something.

Reccommend buying "The Stuff", concentrated 1 part to 15 parts water. approx.$10 to 12. per small bottle. It coats the hairs after a bath and stays in coat for extended period. With a couple of weekly spritzs' during a brush out it will smooth coat, give it weight, fewer tangles, make it look less "fuzzy" and dull. It's great!!

I have the coat conditioner from them. Is that good?

Using the leave in spray is different than rinse/conditioner.

Also, Julie, they don't call this stage "the uglies" for nothing. :) Dakota's coat looked mangy and gross for months because the slick, shiny new topcoat was coming in and some spots still had the puffy baby fur. His coat would be nice and fluffy after I blow dried him, but a day later it'd be back to looking icky.

I think this is one of those puppy things that you just have to wait out.

Sounds like it's adult coat time! It will be worth it, the adult coat is so much prettier than the puppy coat IMO! Just give it time, that's all she needs!

RD, that is exactly what is going on with Holly. Her fur is slick all the way down her back and her sides are still all puffy. I heard that it takes them a couple years to get their FULL coat in. I was told that what their coats look like at 1 year old is nothing like what it looks like when they are 3 years and older. So we'll just have to sit tight and wait this out then.

All the puppy fur will be gone in a few months, but it'll take a few years for her to get that big, full Berner coat. She won't look mis-matched for too long though. :) Dakota lost ALL the puppy fuzz by 7 months.
