They are a lot of work. Plan to spend at least 2-3 hours a day activley working with and watching your pup. Also a lot of patience. As far as walking that all depends on what type of pup you get..let us know and we will help

Please buy the book " How To Raise A Puppy You Can Live With " Neil and Rutherford ....very cheap new or used on Amazon . It's an easy read and will answer all your questions .
There is lots to learn about bringing up a pup, like bringing up a human baby. A couple of questions
1) where are you getting your pup from? breeder, shelter, pet store
2) purebred or mix? either way I would get on a list that is geared to that breed.
3) how old is your new baby? will there be someone home all the time for him or her.
There are more questions that could be answered easily, but definately get some reading done before he or she comes home. If you are getting from a breeder most are more than happy to help with questions and some even send hom a "puppy package" for the new owner

What breed of puppy will it be? That has alot to do with how high its energy level will be. I would research the breed or if its a mix research the breeds that make it up.

The book Bubbatd is amazing and is a book you should definatly pick up. There are also tons of sites out there about how to raise and train a puppy.
Just some examples are.

How soon are you getting this puppy? Was it a spur of the moment decision?
Your going to want to puppy proof your home. Or atleast the parts the puppy is going to be in. Your also going to have to be patient puppies take awhile to grasp "potty training" completely. Best you can do is take it outside as much as you can. After meals, play, and naps are the the best times to do so. Usually they pick a specific place they like to go. You'll notice it after awhile and once you do just bring your puppy out to that spot. They usually go quicker that way ;).
