I rescued a 2 year old rott/shepard mix (61#) and she is my first dog. I don't know what to do so I am trying to find help. I have had her for 2 years and just found out she needs close to $5000.00 worth of knee surgery. I can bearly afford the xrays let alone the surgery. She is in pain and I am at a loss. I am a self employed artist. Does anyone know of any agencies that help pay for these kinds of emergencies? She is no longer allowed to play or go for walks. Can anyone help me? Suzi

the humane society in Kc has a vet clinic that is not for profit..i am sure other cities do as well..if you call the humane society where you are they might be able to direct you...vet schools might also do this for you ..you would be leaving her up to students..but all i ever get is students to work on me and so far they have fixed me up pretty good. See where your nearest college or colleges that teaches upcoming vets are...that is two ideas..i am too a self-employed artist (Please come down to bottom of forum and post your work..i love company) so if it wasn't for these services i couldn't have my dogs at all. Mary had minor eye surgery at my clinic and they only charged me 35 dollars. She had to be asleep for that as well. They also have a hardship program for when i was really down and out...they really care about your animal and do what they can to help. Let us know..keep in touch..will be holding you and your pup in silent meditation..
i can empathize totally..my best friend (dog)Bronki had cancer a year ago and there was nothing i could even consider but to put him down...even if it had been detected at an earlier stage (it was fast growing, developed to extreme in less than 20 days) the only option i would have would be the same. My heart goes out to you. Smkie

Suzi, Smkie's given you some good advice. The organization you rescued her from might be able to steer you to a vet who is willing to give you a reduced rate and let you pay in installments, especially if you were willing to start paying by the month or week before you actually have the surgery done.
